WriteGirl would like to once again like to bring a dozen teen girls to perform their creative work onstage at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. Our frequent MC is Clare Sera, a comedian and screenwriter (writer: BLENDED with Adam Sandler) helps introduce our girls to the audience as well as share a few entertaining stories about WriteGirl. We look forward to welcoming and celebrating these diverse young bold voices as they share their heart-achingly beautiful, funny and sometimes painful personal poetry, stories and monologues.

About WriteGirl:

WriteGirl is an award-winning, innovative creative writing and mentoring program that pairs at-risk teen girls with professional women writers for a year-long season of one-on-one mentoring, genre-specific workshops, public readings, publications, and college and scholarship application assistance. We are proud to report that since 2001, WriteGirl has maintained a 100% success rate in not only helping girls graduate from high school, but also to enroll in college – a remarkable statistic in contrast to the near 65% graduation rate in Los Angeles public high schools. WriteGirl was recognized by Michelle Obama with the 2013 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award for its success inspiring and guiding at-risk teens to college.
