Don't miss the Orange County Premiere screening of CHAVELA, Catherine Gund and Daresha Kyi's powerful new documentary about LGBTQ ranchera singing legend Chavela Vargas, on Friday, Oct. 6 @ 8pm as part of the opening night celebration for the 8th OC Film Fiesta.

The OC Premiere screening of CHAVELA will take place at Picture Show theatre in MainPlace Mall, conveniently located at 2800 N. Main in the heart of Santa Ana, and near the 5, 22 and 57 freeways. Free parking!

Through its lyrical structure, Chavela will take viewers on an evocative, thought-provoking journey through the iconoclastic life of game-changing artist Chavela Vargas.Centered around never before-seen interview footage of Chavela shot 20 years before her death in 2012, and guided by the stories in Chavela's songs, and the myths and tales others have told about her – as well as those she spread about herself – the film weaves an arresting portrait of a woman who dared to dress, speak, sing, and dream her unique life into being.

Vargas, who was an inspiration to Pedro Almodovar and sang at Elizabeth Taylor's wedding in 1957, lived a life as passionate and turbulent as the songs she made famous.
