Dia de los Muertos At LA Plaza


LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes celebrates Dia de los Muertos with Musica de los Muertos altar by artist Andres Montoya and free music, dance, magic, and art workshops for the entire family. Reduced admission to the LA Plaza galleries for all visitors.

In connection with All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day, El Dia de los Muertos goes back thousands of years to indigenous cultures of Mexico. The holiday is reserved for remembrance of ancestors, family, and friends who have passed and includes building private altars honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed and visiting graves with these as gifts.

Oct 29, 12:30 to 4 pm: Dia de los Muertos Family Day: Musica de los Muertos altar by artist Andres Montoya; Music by DJ Jesus Barbosa; Face painting by Lucia Salazar; Art workshops Calavera masks, Memory boxes, Calavera puppets, plus galletas!

Oct 30, 12 to 4 pm: Dia de los Muertos Family Day: Musica de los Muertos altar by artist Andres Montoya; Music by Pio Pico Middle School; In Lak Ech, xicana song, poetry, and drum group, Aztec dancers by Xipe Totec, Magic by Daniel Perez; Face painting by Lucia Salazar; Art workshops Calavera masks, Nichos by LAartlab, Calavera puppets; plus churros!
