Multiple award-winning filmmaker from Guatemala Julio Ponce Palmieri has been given a significant space in the contemporary sector which showcased four of his film productions in Trieste, Italy.
Properly named "Spazio Guatemala- Julio Ponce Palmieri", the films were chosen by Rodrigo Diaz, the director of the Festival Del Cinema Latino Americano Trieste, a very prestigious European film festival which is currently enjoying its 26th year in existence.
Among the productions included were the short films "Been A While", the mythological drama "The Hubris of Sisyphus" and the philosophical adaptation of "Machiavelli's The Prince". Also included was the feature film "2012" which was produced in Canada and Guatemala and speaks of the end of the Mayan calendar and its fateful date: Decemeber 21, 2012.

This is the second time that the Festival Del Cinema Latino Americano in Trieste showcases the Guatemalan filmmaker. In 2009, Julio Ponce Palmieri was given a huge section titled 'A Guatemalan in Canada', where eight of his films were shown in the festival, as he was the first filmmaker from Guatemala to be a part of the programming of such.
