eHealth Summit: Technology's Impact On Health

The Pat Brown Institute's Health Policy Outreach Center convenes an eHealth Summit on Monday, December 12, that features California's most respected and impressive expert speakers on the topic of health technology as it intersects with community and policy.
Entitled "eHealth: Impact, Policy, Reality", the Summit brings together health IT leaders, health technology leaders from top universities, presidents of foundations, private business leaders, physicians and community health providers, and community advocates to explore the promise and challenges of the technology boom in the healthcare fields.
"The eHealth Revolution is, in many respects, ahead of the community and policy infrastructures," said Jaime Regalado, Executive Director of the Pat Brown Institute. "The promise of eHealth solutions is exciting, but we have a responsibility to examine the ramifications in regard to care, cultural competency, cost and delivery, privacy and policy."
This year's keynote speakers are a frontline representation of the critical components represented at the eHealth Summit and include:

Dr. Smith, whose California HealthCare Foundation, is the leading funder of technological innovation programs to make healthcare accessible to call Californians, will provide a dynamic luncheon keynote about the promise and pitfalls of eHealth. Dr. Mattison will discuss how Kaiser Permanente was able to overcome the immense challenges of creating a secure electronic records system nationally.
The two expert panels will address the current state and future of eHealth. The "Now" panel features Mr. Ahmed, Dr. Fu, Ms. Martinez and Ms. Kattlove and will explore that rapid changes in care and access that technology has brought and how it is affecting the communities, whether positive or negative. Cultural competency and the digital divide are major issues to explore. The "Next" panel will look at what is on the horizon for implementation into health services and what it means to health consumers, providers and policy makers. The "next" panel features Dr. Estrin, Dr. Tolomiczenko and Dr. Gallegos.
The summit will also feature an expo area that will feature a Tweet Zone for participants to tweet questions for speakers and panels as well as organizations that will display interactive technologies.
The event is free as a public service and limited space is still available (while organizers will try to accommodate all attendees, lunch is only guaranteed for those who register online by noon on 12/9/11).
