Demian Bichir Tops List of Six Latino Oscar Nominees

Demian Bichir is on the top of the list of Oscar nominees! Yes, the Oscar list of nominees (announced this morning) on the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences website of starts off with Bichir's name. He is in the company for the title of Best Actor in a Leading Role, along such Hollywood icons as George Clooney (The Descendants), Brad Pitt , Moneyball, Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) and French actor Jean Dujardin for his performance in The Artist.

This is a first. Chalk it for the history books. The first time a Mexican actor has been nominated for his role playing a Mexican.

Bichir plays a gardener in East L.A. who struggles to keep his son away from gangs and immigration agents while trying to give his son the opportunities he never had. It is a truly Oscar-worthy performance.
