Walt Disney Co. and Univision are in talks to launch an English-language 24-hour cable news channel to target bilingual and English-speaking Latinos.

According to data from the University of California, Hispanics are less likely to call an ambulance when they're having a stroke, which contributes to the fact that Hispanics are about half as likely as non-Hispanics to have a favorable outcome after a stroke.

A group of Puerto Rican DEA agents have filed a lawsuit against the DEA claiming that they are paid less and receive more dangerous assignments than agents hired in the U.S. that are sent to Puerto Rico.

Two teachers were arrested and the entire staff is to be replaced at Miramonte Elementary School, in a predominantly Latino area of Los Angeles. Mark Berndt was arrested after photos emerged of the 61-year-old teacher binding and blindfolding students and subjecting them to lewd acts. Fellow Miramonte teacher Martin Springer was also arrested this week on charges of inappropriate behavior with students.

Alejandrina Cabrera is appealing the decision of Yuma County Superior Court Judge John Nelson who ruled that Cabrera's command of English was insufficient for her to hold public office. Cabrera was running for City Council in San Luis, Arizona, a small border town in Arizona with an estimated 99% Latino population.

International

Argentina has vowed to complain to the UN, accusing Britain of "militarizing the South Atlantic". 2012 marks the 30th anniversary of the Falklands war in 1982.

Missionaries John and Wanda Casias, originally from Texas, were found slain in their home near Monterrey, Mexico last week.

Puerto Rican fisherman Jose Luis Mendez survived nearly three weeks adrift in the Caribbean by eating raw fish and drinking trapped rainwater. Mendez washed ashore on the Colombian island of San Andres after running out of gas on January 15th.

Bolivian coca growers used whips to drive away a government coca eradication team, the second attack on government anti-coca teams in the town of La Asunta.
