?íOrale, Mi Gente!

It's been mighty cold outside the past 2 weeks, even rained this weekend...but the inside action is still hot in the Land of 1000 Dances.

Friday before last, we caught George Salazar's 2nd TIME AROUND Band at the American Legion Post 139 in Alhambra for a great show.

Last Wednesday, the birthday party to party to beat all birthday parties happened at the Antiqua Latin Bistro on Beverly Blvd in Montebello, as the cream of Latino music gathered to party and jam with RAY CARRION, as he celebrated his 50th birthday in style. Joined by his lovely lady Maria and mucho friends, Ray took the stage with 3 different bands, including EUROPA, and it was on! He was simply magnificent on stage, proving why he is one of L.A.'s top guitarist...and he did it while partying on his birthday!

I was honored to introduce Ray & EUROPA, and they jammed hard and fine!

If they weren't on stage, they were in the audience, as I met up with Thee Mr. Duran, East L.A. Rey, promoter Rick Ortiz, Dale Villavicencio of TIERRA, Jimmy Espinosa of THEE MIDNITERS, Bruce Soto of the SOTO Band, members of the IMPULSE Band, drummer Renee Flores of the MAD LATINS, 'Mr. Magnificent" Bob DeSena, "El Mero-Mero de West Coast Salsa" Johnny Polanco, Bassist Edgar Salas & Vanessa Hernandez of TEASE, singers Rocky Padilla, Cory Silva, Te'Cheetah Lopez, and Mike Jimenez, bassist "Rodger the Dodger" Sandoval of SANGRIA, and many other Latin Soul music stars on brass & percussion from both coasts that made it an all the way live experience. So many stars & so much big league talent, I couldn't remember all the names....forgive me...

LatinoLA wishes Ray a Happy Birthday, and welcome to the "Half Century Plus" club de Aztlan.

Friday night we made it out to the San Fernando American Legion Hall, where PERSUASIAN, a group that's been chillin' on hiatus for awhile, came back hard & heavy, rockin' the Veterans & Gente de San Fernando bien suave, and I got to break in some new dancing chanclas!

Saturday, we took a cruise up the 101 north as PEPE MARQUEZ and the LATIN SOUL REVIEW Band took the stage with guest star singer ANTHONY PRIETO at the Union Ale Club in downtown Santa Barbara for a fundraiser benefiting the city employees of Santa Barbara. Pepe and Anthony rocked the house to a full, standing room only crowd, who managed to squeeze in some boogie time despite being elbow to elbow, and I had the pleasure of meeting and sharing a cold one with some young MARINES just back from Afghanistan.

Sunday was just a mellow cruise home as we visited American Legion Posts in Santa Barbara, Oxnard, and finally Camarillo, getting warm welcomes at each stop.

Word out is that LOUIE PARRA & Thee MAD LATINS with special guest singer CORY SILVA rocked it brown to the bone at the PALOMA ROOM on Whittier Blvd in Montebello this past Saturday night as well. Heard it was a great party.
...always IS, when the Mad Latins hit the stage !

Thursday, March 29th, the incomparable SOTO BAND hits the stage at STEVE's BAR-B-QUE, voted one of L.A.'s top bar-b-que joints in the Land of 1000 Dances. Great food, a great crowd, and NO cover charge. For more info: www.sotoband.com.

I have the pleasure of joining Mr. GILBERT ESQUIVEL this Friday, March 30th at the San Fernando American Legion as we put on the MEMORIES DANCE Show, with Oldies, dancing, talent spots, raffles, and comedy. Tickets & info: (310) 518-2229. Come on out and join us!

And if that ain't enough, the powerful SATISFACTION Band hits the stage at MAGGIE'S PUB in Santa Fe Springs this Friday, March 30th for another great dance party. For more info: www.satisfactionband.com.

Down in Orange County, BALANCE checks in for a night of hot music & dancing at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Irvine on Saturday, March 31st, while SOTO gives up the bad~ass sounds at Original Mike's across town in Santa Ana the same night.

Coming back to the San Fernando Valley part of Aztlan, SARAH MORGAN and SIDETRACS, one of THEE most exciting bands in the Valley, featuring guitarist RIK CANTU, hit the stage every Friday at MONTY's STEAKHOUSE in Woodland Hills. For more info: www.sidetracs.com

Word is growing and flying all over Aztlan about the HIP STREET Band, Johnny Burrola's tribute to the great TOWER of POWER. Featuring some of the most truest sounding, fantabulous (is that a word?), and electrifying TOWER of POWER Soul music this side of Oakland, HIP STREET makes it's first San Fernando Valley appearance on April 13th, along with The WESTSIDE CREW and the CARRY ON BAND,at the SPORTSMEN's LODGE in Studio City. For tickets & info: (310) 518-2229.

And as always, the finest Chicano~Latino Soul music on the world Wide Web is heard around the corner, coast to coast, and around the World on www.eastLArevue.com.

Whew!...lot's happening in the Land of 1000 Dances...and you'll hear about it here, on LatinoLA ! Check out our Calendario page for other upcoming events on the Brown Side of Town.

(Note: not any GOOD chisme worth talking about this month....yet!)
