Napolitano Endorses Sigala in CD 13 Primary

The Sigala for Council 2013 campaign announced that Congresswoman Grace Napolitano has endorsed Jose Sigala to replace Eric Garcetti on the Los Angeles City Council, district 13.

"Gun violence prevention and mental health issues impacts all of us. Jose Sigala is from the community and works to bring people together to support mental health and police programs. He is a strong advocate for restoring of equipment and emergency personnel to LAFD Fire House #20" said Congresswoman Napolitano, Vice Chair of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force and Co-Chair of the Congressional Mental Health Caucus.

Jose Sigala is immediate past President of the Greater Echo Park Elysian Neighborhood Council (GEPENC) and has been responsible for many accomplishments in CD13 including: the removal of 14 tons of trash and bulky items; lighting to restore $7 million dollars for LAUSD after-school programs for 42,000 students; advocating for the restoration of the Los Angeles River as past president of the Friends of the Los Angeles River (FoLAR); Rehabilitating Echo Park Lake as a member of the Prop O Citizens Oversight Bond Committee; and working with Los Angeles Animal advocates in implementing the citywide spay neuter programs.

"I am deeply honored to have the support of Congresswoman Grace Napolitano, who has raised the profile of mental health in Congress, with a special focus on funding programs that directly serve military and veterans." Sigala continued, "I look forward to working with her and increasing early prevention and intervention services to address the mental health needs, well-being and safety of our future leaders and youth."

Sigala was born and raised in Los Angeles and is a product of local public schools. Sigala has 20 years of leadership experience in the State Legislature, LA City Hall and serving as a Board Member on nonprofit organizations. Sigala is a 15 year homeowner who lives in Echo Park with his wife and twin daughters.
