Solo Pedimos Justicia: El Corrido de Jesus Aguirre

I met the parents of Jesus Aguirre at a community meeting de Los Amigos de Santa Ana.

Jesus Aguirre is a minor tried as an adult and sentenced to life in prison for a crime he did not commit.

From Change.org

On March 13, 2010, Ramon Maga??a was injured with a shotgun carrying bird shot ammunition, which was fired by his sisters ex-boyfriend after a brief altercation in the city of Buena Park, California.

Ramon suffered bruised, superficial non-life threatening lesions according to the medical reports. Ramon decided not to press charges against his shooter.

"My son Jesus Arturo Aguirre 16 year old at the time, was arrested by the Buena Park Police Department for this crime and accused of attempted murder. He was taken to court and classified as a gang member, even though he had a clean record and no prior felonies of gang activities on record prior to being arrested for this crime."

"On April 6, 2012, Orange Count y Superior Court judge William R. Froegerg sentenced Jesus, now 18 years old, to life in prison for premeditated attempted murder affiliated with a gang despite the fact that the victim Ramon Maga??a testified in court that Jesus was not responsible for the crime. The victim's mother and sister, who witnessed the crime, also testified in favor of Jesus.

"DNA and fingerprints taken form the crime scene did not point to Jesus and the weapon was never found. Jesus was charged as an adult even though he was arrested at the age of 16.

"There are many cases like that of my son, Jesus. They are criminalizing our youth giving excessive and cruel sentences that are unjust and inhumane for misdemeanors. We are in the appeal of the case. We know that the Prosecutor, and Judge and Superior Court failed, and we hope to receive Justice for our son Jesus Arturo Aguirre."

Solo Pedimos Justicia

Justice for Jesus Arturo Aguirre
Protest at the DA's Office Monday July 22, 2013 9 am to 11am . 401 Civic Center Dr. W., Santa Ana, Ca. 92701
We demand a stop to:
Police abuse
The unilateral gang enhancement
Sentencing minors as adults
And the continuing criminalization of youth of color
