More News From the Brown Side of Town

Fall has come to the Land of 1000 Dances...all the leaves are falling, but the skies are clear and weather and the action are not cooling down by any means!

Less than 100 days till Christmas, and the L.A. Dodgers are heading heading for the playoffs.

Bad news is that the last aerospace plant in California, Boeing, is closing it's Long Beach plant after many years, laying off thousands beginning in 2014....bummer !

Some good news is that TIERRA officially declared Summer over (in 90 degree + weather, LOL!) and the beginning of fall by having a party & concert with a thousand close friends at the Santa Fe Swap Meet last weekend. Man! Them guys always sound so good and continue to draw large crowds of dancing Gente.

Ray Carrion (of AZTECA & EL CHICANO fame) and TIERRA's Rudy Salas head an all-star cast of some L.A.'s favorite & most popular Latino and Chicano music performers as they join together as The EAST LOS ALL STARS for a weekly music Pro-jam party at GRINGO's CAFE (formerly the Montebello Inn & Paloma Room) in Montebello which features such stars as Rocky Padilla, Joey Navarro, Steve Gutierrez, Grammy award-nominated percussionist Victor Orlando, Eddie Rouse, singer TeCheetah Lopez, and comedian Gilbert Esquivel, hosted by Internet TV's Thee Mr. Duran.

The public is invited to come on down & party every Thursday FOR FREE! With FREE secure parking, delicious food specials, generous bartenders (wink) and ice cold beers for only $5.00, it makes a great way to start your weekend .Different special musical guest stars are expected every week. No catch! All this great talent on stage for us to enjoy & dance to FOR FREE!!

"It's just our way of saying thank you to our fans for a great summer of support at all the great outdoor events & concerts that brought people together by the thousands this year," a happy Ray Carrion told LatinoLA after the first show last Thursday.

I attended the show with my Lady as part of the Fearsome Foursome group last Thursday, and we were in GOOD company to get our boogie on! Comedian Gilbert Esquivel pleasantly surprised everybody by singing a couple of good songs to dance to along while cracking a couple jokes, and all the artists showed their stuff by giving up some great solos...guess where we'll be Thursday ? You never know who just might show up.

Gilbert also brings his famous Eastside Comedy & Old School Dance Show back to the Sportsman's Lodge in Studio City this Friday by popular demand. Always a great party you won't want to miss, tickets are still available at 310-518-2229.
..see you there!

Ray Carrion will also be headlining and bringing some heavy hitters to the San Fernando Valley on October 26th as the EAST LOS ALL STARS featuring Ray Carrion of Azteca/El Chicano fame, Jimmy Espinosa (of Thee Midniters ), Bobby Navarette (TIERRA/ Thee Midniters), the SFV's singing/performing duo of Ray & Becky Cordova (Drifters, El Chicano, The Company, Brotherhood, Grooveline) and TIERRA's Danny Santillan come to the San Fernando Valley Moose Lodge for a Halloween Costume Party & Dance hosted & DJ'd by Frankie Firme that will also offer food, discount tickets for couples & reserved tables, and a $100.00 prize for best costume. Tickets go on sale September 23rd. call 818-581-5572. Surprise music guests expected.

Last Saturday, we attended the opening of the BOURBON NIGHTS Burlesque & Blues Show at NOLA'S of L.A. in the rejuvenated Artist District of downtown Los Angeles, and I must say, WE WERE IMPRESSE ! Having not visited the area in over 13 years when it was the backyard of L.A.'s notorious Skid Row, the area is refreshingly new in an old part of town. NOLA'S of L.A. promotes a " Taste of New Orleans" in atmosphere and entertainment. It is tastefully decorated in an antique theme, the staff are friendly, and the food is pretty good. (I recommend the jambalaya, gumbo & b-b-que grilled pork chops)

BOURBON NIGHTS, a show put on by Will Cervera of Running Wild Industries, is as authentic a burlesque show as if you had a chance to go back in time 100 years. With a well dressed gentleman and a sexy but elegantly dressed boudoir bunny with British accents serving as co-hosts, and exchanging corny but naughty innuendo jokes, the show is tastefully entertaining. Bringing the Art of Striptease back to a level of respectable & artistic entertainment, the beautiful ladies of the evening put on quite an impressive display of dance talent, personality, originality and athletic prowess that was sensual but never crosses the lines of good taste.

The BLUES GYPSIES Band were simply outstanding as the house band, laying down a carpet of classic Blues music that carried the show to it's success of the night. One of the better Blues band I've heard in years.

The show is put on monthly, and we highly recommend it. For more info: www.runningwildindustries.com, or check out "Nola's-A Taste of New Orleans" on Facebook.
