Urban Graffiti Latino Slam

?A cross between Star Search and Friday Night at the Apollo with a twist of Def Poetry.?

Urban Graffiti Latino TV Show is a head to head slam competition featuring Latin poets and Latin actors. It's a high-energy slam competition were the nation's top Latin poets perform original ?Spoken Word? poems and Latin actors perform original monologues that speak to the urban experience. Through these performances audience members get the real ?word on the street.?

Urban Graffiti Latino is produced as a reality-based variety show. The show is complete with a host, house band and disc jockey, performers competing for weekly prizes, guest performers, and guest musicians.

Urban Graffiti Latino is the only television show that features Latin poets and Latin actors in a competitive environment. Performers must ?one up? each other as they compete for prizes and to be recognized as the best in their category. All competitors have been prescreened to insure the quality of the event.

Aside from the competition aspect of the show, well-known celebrities such as Jimmy Smits, Mario Lopez, Jacob Vargas and the Pulitzer Prize winning poet Piri Thomas are invited to perform their favorite poem or monologue. Other featured guests perform experimental monologues, group poems and poems to music. Urban Graffiti Latino also features guest musicians who perform the latest Latin Rock hits. Throughout the show audience members participate as judges and ultimately decide on our Urban Graffiti champions, which brings the excitement and the feel of a lively town hall meeting.

Urban Graffiti Latino, the TV show, emerges from an on-going, well sponsored, live slam festival which continues to be well received by the urban Latino, African American and poetry communities. Shihan Van Clief, an Afro Puerto Rican poet, currently hosts the Urban Graffiti Live Slam Festival. His credibility in the spoken world arena has earned him many accolades. He is currently the national talent coordinator for Russel Simmons? Def Poetry ? on the HBO channel.

Urban Graffiti Latino is unique in that it provides a cultural showcase of talent to a broad audience ranging from the urban street kid to a more mature audience with an age range that spans from 18 to 65 years old. With a buzz already about it, Urban Graffiti audiences tune in to hear the ?word on the street? from of the ?people of the street? to stay ?in the know?.
