An Elegy for Jose Montoya

An Elegy for Jose Montoya

It is finished!
A work of life completed.
Sing now, sing in harmony
As the sun sets
The last song.
Sing aloud, without shame:
It is done, it is done
And it is beautiful!
Would it be that there a place
Existed where souls would gather
In kindred company,
A place where music, dance and drink,
Laughter and quiet conversation
Of what will happen
Once this life is done.
There I'd want to be,
Amongst you,
To celebrate a life well lived.
There,
when this life is done,
I'd want to be.
It is finished!
So just as you wept
And the world rejoiced
When you began,
You lived your life in such a way
That while we weep now,
You rejoice.
But you're still here.
You haven't left,
Your music, song and verse:
Your Art,
Remain.
You're in all things kind and lovely
Comic, sad and tragic.
You are in the heart of a people's
Struggle and that is never finished.
You haven't left.
Because you've learned to live,
You conquered death.
Yet, your sojourn here
Is done.
It is finished!
Your work is done, it is done
And it is
Beautiful.
Like your hero, Louie
You have sang your death song,
And without asking for more,
You have gone home,
To the Original Source,
Eternity.
