My husband Neal and I have been visiting Frida Restaurant, a place I call a little bit of Mexico at the Americana in Glendale for quite a while now. The place is absolutely beautiful, the ambiance very friendly, and the service impeccable. But one of the main reasons that keeps us coming back is the food. Anyone who knows me, knows how picky I am when it comes to Mexican food; after all I grew up in Mexico City, used to the best of the vast selections of delicacies in Mexican cuisine!
No, not every Mexican dish is served with lettuce and yellow cheese on top, and we Mexicans enjoy so much more than tacos and enchiladas!
Mexican cuisine is abundant in its delicious varieties. It differs depending on the region. You find literally hundreds of different seafood dishes along the coast of Guerrero (the southern state where my parents were born) to many kinds of succulent moles not only in Puebla, but throughout the country.
Not to mention the thousands of candies, cakes, flans, sweet breads, etc.
When Neal and I go to Frida Restaurant I feel like I am visiting one of the many fabulous restaurants in Mexico City. The variety of dishes they offer, all made to perfection, is hard to find anywhere else. One recent addition to their menu quickly became one of Neal's favorites: "Pescado Marinado." I love the "Tostaditas" and the "Ensalada al Tequila." They also offer many meat and chicken dishes. Honestly, anything you order, I am certain you will enjoy; I would not be surprised if you become a regular too!
The friendly service is another plus, as well as their "Happy Hour" from 3 to 7 every day, including weekends. And don't forget to try their Sunday Mariahci brunch.
I do not get any "freebies" for recommending Frida Restaurant at the American in Glendale. But I do get the satisfaction of sharing this little bit of Mexico with my LatinoLA friends. Chances are Neal and I will be there when you visit, so come by and say hi.
