Seeking ACA Community Organizer

Title: Community Organizer

Start date: After January 15, 2014

Departments: To support and recruit for Obama Care Health insurance outreach targeting Latino LGBT in the Boyle Heights community and to advocate for increase access to mental health services to improve the health of Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals in Boyle heights.

Office Location: 930 Colorado Blvd. Suite 3, Los Angeles, CA. 90041

Hours: Full-Time (40 hours a week) M-F
9am-6pm (some nights and weekends will be required)

Salary: $30,000/Annual

Benefits: Medical, dental and vision insurance in accordance to ObamaCare (health care reform) two weeks paid vacation and 10 paid sick days after one year of
employment. 11 paid holidays

Description: The Community Organizer reports to the Executive Director and Senior Programs Manager. Assist in the implementation of all prevention/risk reduction interventions/ programs and supports health insurance outreach and enrollment activities and to advocate for increase access to mental health services in order to improve the health of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals in Boyle heights.

Objective goals and service/activities to include, but not limited to: outreach and recruitment to Latino men, women and young adults; outreach to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals; recruit individuals for to the agency and program activities; outreach to churches; assists in developing an outreach plan; conduct workshops and trainings; assist in the development of public policy; translation of documents to Spanish; assist in development and distribution of a social media campaign. Assist and organize in agency yearly events, develop tailored LGBTQ marketing material.

Identify, enlist, and train key individual leaders to encourage safer sexual norms and
behaviors within their social networks through risk-reduction conversations. Help
coordinate and implement all HIV/AIDS and substance abuse prevention/risk reduction services, activities and events

Facilitate Affordable Care Act (ACA), HIV/AIDS and Substance Abuse prevention workshops. Cultivate positive relationships with other agencies and communities of faith for the purpose of raising awareness in the community about TWLMP mission and values and to build collaborative service networks. Responsible for any other assignments provided by the Executive Director and the Senior Programs Managers.

Required Qualifications:

?└ Associate degree or equivalent in social welfare, public health or related field

?└ A minimum of 2 years of experience in non-profit setting or prevention work

?└ Excellent organizational, verbal, written and public speaking skills

?└ ACA knowledge

?└ Knowledge of LGBT (Lesbian, Gay Bisexual & Transgender) issues affecting the community

?└ Must be knowledgeable of the Boyle Heights community

?└ Good understanding of the wellness and healthcare needs of people of color

?└ Ability to work well with diverse populations and stakeholders

?└ Possession of a California driver's license

?└ Possession of liability insurance

?└ Must have transportation

?└ Bicultural and Bilingual in Spanish and English

?└ Must submit writing samples.
