Diabetes, Heart Disease & Obesity: Two Men Fighting Back

Luis Torres and Rick Ramirez have both dealt with health issues that awakened a sense of urgency to make a life-long change. Rick's father was diagnosed with diabetes, going through the process of dialysis and having one of his limbs amputated, only to later pass away from his illness. Luis' father suffered from liver cancer that ultimately developed into diabetes. After battling for a year and a half, Luis' father passed away, but not before laying his eyes on his first granddaughter, a newborn. Their lifestyle choices contributed to them being ripped away from their family, a pain neither Luis nor Rick ever want others to feel.

Having both gone through personal losses due to very serious diseases, Luis and Rick knew it was time to make a difference for the better while bringing the neighborhood along for the ride. The growing epidemic of obesity has given rise to health risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. Both men decided to conceptualize a drink that would not only influence healthier choices, but wake up the minds of a generation built on fast food and soft drinks.

Enter Agua Con, refreshing flavored water with a twist: No sugar, no calories, no preservatives and no sodium. The message behind Agua Con is simple: Similar taste, just healthier. Traditional flavors such as Guava, Horchata, Pineapple Coconut and Lemon Lime give you just a taste of nostalgia without all the guilt. As an alternative to sugary drinks, this flavored water has brought awareness to the community on how eating right can have a positive effect on your future health. Rosie Acosta from Fox News Latino named Agua Con one of her favorite summertime drinks as well as a healthier option to artificially sweetened beverages.

Mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, has been an advocate of Agua Con, allowing it to sponsor a variety of public events for the city. In 2014, Nature's Best, one of the major distributors in the natural health food industry, believed in Agua Con's message and decided to embark on the journey to better health. With major supporters on their side, Luis and Rick have been able to spread the word and bring a change to the community, one bottle at a time.
