First Stop: Yosemite National Park

We are getting ready to do a 10-day road trip to central and Northern California. Our friends Rosemary and Jesus and my wife Trini and I will be going in their van and will be visiting Yosemite National Park, Lake Tahoe and San Francisco and returning to Los Angeles via the beautiful coastal highway 1.

Yosemite and Tahoe are beautiful sites our friends will be visiting for the first time.

Our trip will begin in Los Angeles and we will be driving north through the middle of the San Joaquin Valley. We will drive directly to the city of Merced and then rest there. The following day we will begin our two day visit of Yosemite.

Thereafter, we will continue our drive north to Lake Tahoe. We will be staying on the Nevada boundary side of the city. There are a few multistory casino hotels and their view of the lake is spectacular. In many ways it reminds me of Lake Como in Italy and Lake Constance in Switzerland.

Afterwards, we will drive to San Francisco and stay on the western side of the city. Our plan is to stay near the downtown area of the city near Fisherman's wharf.

I am excited to be there since I LOVE eating crab sandwiches in the wharf. I also like eating sourdough bread and no one can make this delicious bread like they do in San Francisco.

We begin our drive by going to Merced, which is approximately a 5 hour drive. Merced is a small city with a population of 80,00 and home of the University of California Merced. The university was in 2005 and it has a student population of 6,200 (undergraduate and graduate students). UC Merced had a 66% percentage in state admission rate!

Being that Merced is in the middle of the San Joaquin Valley it is a farm area with a growing public and private prison industry.

My next article will be our visit to Yosemite National Park. Last time Trini and I were in the park was 20-years ago. We are looking forward to visiting again.
