The Council of Mexican Federations (COFEM) continues to support students who want to pursue a higher education by offering scholarships to students enrolled in a Community College or an accredited Four-year University as an undergraduate student and to those who will be college freshmen in the fall of 2014.
COFEM continues its commitment to ensure that students of Latino origin have an opportunity to continue with their higher education. With this goal in mind, the Mexican American Dream Scholarship Program exists in order to ensure that students continue their school and don't drop out of college. The scholarship allows students to pay for tuition, books, and housing.
The program started in 2008, and since then over $260,000 has been awarded to over 250 students. The scholarship program has especially helped AB-540 undocumented students who prior to 2012 were unable to receive any state funds to help fund their education. The scholarships helped in many ways alleviate the economic obstacle that often stands between students and their education. COFEM is dedicated to help students fulfill their academic dreams. The program has created leadership and ensured that more Latinos graduate college. As part of the scholarship program recipients are required to complete community service with COFEM.
Applications are available for immigrant students, or those who are of immigrant descent, and students affiliated to COFEM through a club or federation and are seeking equal opportunities to access higher education. We are looking for candidates that have demonstrated a strong academic background, and are involved in their communities. Please refer to the application link below for more eligibility criteria. Scholarships will be awarded in amounts of $500 to students attending a Community College and $1,000 to undergraduate students attending a four-year College/University. If hand delivered they must be received by Friday, October 17th, 2014 at 5:00 pm or if sent by mail they must be postmarked by Thursday, October 16th at 5:00 pm and sent to:
