More than 10,000 families from Los Angeles County are invited to the Los Angeles Convention Center on Saturday, Oct. 11 from to 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. to learn about the various choices and resources they have when it comes to selecting schools for their children and family healthcare.
Choices Expo is a full day of fun and information for the whole family from entertainment and health screenings, a soccer tournament, student performances and healthy cooking demonstrations.
In particular, organizers say they are creating an "Immigrant Student Resource Safe Zone" for immigrant parents (nearly 61% of all children in LA County live with a parent that is foreign born) to learn about their options when it comes to their children's education and wellness.
"No other event in the country ties health and education in one place," said Xavier Reyes, CHOICES Expo creator and CEO of Alta Public Schools. "These two areas of our lives are so essential for our well-being that we want to teach them every day to our students and parents. Now, it's all in one place. Where else can our parents go to receive a physical, a scholarship, and all the information they ever needed to make their lives richer for their children?"
This is the only event of its kind in the United States bringing together education advocates, health and medical service providers, and professionals from the wellness and public service and nonprofit sector.
