Baldwin Park will explode with color when artist, Rey Armenteros, exhibits his paintings, a series of work which turns memories into fortune-telling cards. Using a unique process in which he assembles his painted memories into "flat toys," as he views them, Armenteros describes his work as two-dimensional sculptures that are built from the parts of paintings. "When I put a painting together, I attempt to get the look of bright plastic," says the artist from Miami. "But I base the concepts on tarot cards because I feel all memories are universal, and the imagery in these old cards are like a blueprint for our thoughts and our interactions with the people around us."
Showcasing his recent work in which he brings early childhood back to life, Memories from a Radio: Of Daughter's Arrival and Father's Farewell is dedicated to his father, who passed away last year.
