Del Real Foods, an authentic Mexican refrigerated company, recently announced the winner of its Fight for Flavor competition to young Chef Esdras Ochoa (pictured) from Mexicali Taco & Co., winning $5,000.
"What a humbling and amazing experience to be on deck with such talented chefs from the L.A scene," said Chef Ochoa. "Every single one of them was a winner from the start. This win goes out to the amazing people of the crowd that were present and to my family & friends. Thank you, Del Real Foods, for one heck of a ride!"
Five Los Angeles-area chefs competed, bringing their heart into dishes that used the Del Real Foods products as the base. From Italian fettuccini to Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches, the chefs demonstrated their own unique cooking styles and the versatility of the traditionally Mexican products. Winning the "People's Favorite" was Chef Natalie Curie of El Coraloense Seafood Restaurant in Bell Gardens.
"We're a family-owned company who focuses on preparing authentic Mexican tasting meats and salsas that can be ready to eat in a matter of minutes," said Vice President of Sales and Marketing Herb Bowden. "All of the chefs are to be commended for their dishes. It was a tough competition. In the end, we hope people saw first-hand how easy and versatile it is to cook with our products, which are all made with gluten-free, quality ingredients."
Filled with the intensity and drama of any TV cooking show, the final event was hosted by MundoFOX News Anchor Jose Ronstadt and attended by more than 100 Los Angeles-area taste makers, food bloggers and foodies. Chefs competing this year included:
Chef Natalie Curie, El Coraloense Seafood Restaurant
Chef Gina Galvan, Chomp Chomp Nation
Chef David Moreno, Komodo Food Truck
Chef Esdras Ochoa, Mexicali Taco & Co.--GRAND PRIZE WINNER
Chef Aaron J. Perez, Vaka Burgers
The Fight for Flavor program had each of the renowned chefs create an original recipe and then compete in local tasting events throughout Southern California. The integrated campaign also included support via radio, online video, and digital display advertising featuring each of the chefs.
