In the heart of Santa Ana between 4th and 3rd Street, in the area known as Calle Cuatro, sits an historical movie theater that has featured appearances by icons of Mexican cinema's "época de oro" such as Pedro Infante, Antonio Aguilar and Cantinflas to name a few.
The Yost Theater has since transformed into a top-notch musical and performance venue after its renovation in 2011. Now, the second floor above the Yost has been transformed into a beautiful new dance hall known as the Ritz Ballroom and local dancers are excited.
The Candela Salsa Night grand opening for the 2,400 square foot ballroom is Thursday May 19, 2016. Admission varies depending on your age and if you have a local college ID. It's $5 if you are 21 and over but if you are between 18 and 20 cover is $10. Also, Santa Ana College or CSU Fullerton students with ID pay only $5 regardless of age.
There is a free salsa lesson included with your cover provided by veteran salsa instructor Corey Eiland. Doors open at 7pm and the lesson begins at 8:30pm. "I'm excited for the chance to be of service to my salsa community, though I especially love working with first-timers and beginners who have yet to find the music and the dance. I teach all levels, but I love my beginners because they carry on the tradition for those who have yet to find salsa," says Eiland.
Ritz Ballroom features a full bar as well as a lounge with appetizers and a dinner menu. Grand opening night will feature various dance performances and non-stop music until 2am.
Ritz Ballroom is located above the Yost Theater at 305 N Spurgeon St, Santa Ana, CA. For more information visit the Facebook page at
