Read Conmigo recognizes Norwalk third grade teacher for her exemplary dual language instruction

NLMUSD Teacher Named Bilingual Educator of the Year

The national children's bilingual literacy program, Read Conmigo, recently awarded its first Bilingual Educator of the Year Award to Mayra Salguero, a third grade bilingual teacher at Edmondson Elementary School in Norwalk.

Salguero was nominated by a fellow teacher and was chosen for the award by votes made by the general public. She received more than 19,000 votes from parents, students and other educators. Read Conmigo received a total of 40 nominations nationally and more than 50,000 votes were cast throughout the country.

Read Conmigo surprised Salguero with this recognition during the school's end of year assembly which was attended by school principal, Jacob Muñiz; Read Conmigo Multicultural Representative Frances Zazueta and Hasmik Danielian, Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District Superintendent.

After the award presentation, Salguero's classroom congratulated her with a big classroom hug.
