"Honoring Ayotzinapa's 43 Normalistas"

This event is in honor of the 43 missing Normalista students from The Raul Isidro Burgos Rural Teacher's College of Ayotzinapa located in the Mexican state of Guerrero. The students went missing on September 26th of 2014. The buses they traveled in were attacked by police and government authorities as in entered the town of Iguala, Guerrero. That evening several were killed, others were injured and 43 were forcibly disappeared.

This coming September 26 marks two years since they were last seen. The Rural Teacher's Colleges known as Normales were product of the Mexican Revolution as a way to educate and assist the most marginalized rural communities of Mexico. The first Normal was established in 1922. Since then, the Normales have eradicated illiteracy for millions of Mexicans and have contributed to the building of the nation (1).The unknown whereabouts of the 43 students reflects the systematic disappearance, assassinations and the constant human rights violations against Mexicans and immigrants from Central America who are forced to migrate to the United States.

The one day vigil will take place on September 26,2016 from 6-10pm at casa 0101 Jean Deleage Art Gallery.
