Festival Navide?o en la Calle Ocho

As a young child growing up in Guayas, Ecuador, Edgar N. Palacios asked Santa Claus to bring him a present. Eagerly, he waited for his gift but at last it was not meant to be. He remembers his Christmas like something that shouldn?t happen to another child.

As a successful businessman and leader in the Latin Community, Edgar realized we need a festival that would bring happiness to the less fortunate children and their families that don?t have the finances for the Christmas Holidays. So in 1998, he decided to combine two great holidays together, Calle Ocho (8th St. Festival) and the Christmas holiday, to bring the Festival Navide?o en la Calle Ocho, Los Angeles.

The 6th. Annual Christmas Festival on 8th Street in Los Angeles, hosted by the non-profit organization Edgar N. Palacios Children's Foundation will take place on Saturday and Sunday, December 13th and 14th, 2003 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The festival will cover 8 blocks, from Irolo to Berendo and from 7th. to 9th St.

This event is proud to be selected one of the biggest Toy Drive in Southern California with special attention to the children. The festival has only one sole purpose: provide as many toys and smiles to as many children possible during the holidays.

The two-day Festival will include two concert stages, top billboard musical stars, a great taste of Latino food, clowns, mini-circus and more. Gifts, toys and merchandise will be given away at no cost. There will also be a guest appearance by Santa Claus with many gifts for the children. Attendance for this event will be over 100,000 people; it is for general public and the admission is free. More than 35,000 toys will be donated.

This year?s line up features include: Agosto, California Show, David Garc?a, Energia Norte?a, Gaviales del Norte, Inspiraci?n Colombiana, Los Pinguos, Omar Lizarraga, Santos, OGQ, Yesenia y sus Gitanos ... and more. Also, Beto ?El Chist?logo?, will performance at the event.

We are extremely pleased and privileged to announce that Jose Feliciano will be The Grand Marshal and Albita will be the Queen of the Festival. Both of them will receive a special recognition at the Festival by the Major of the City of Los Angeles, James K. Hahn for their contributions, achievements and their successful careers in the world of music.

Jose Feliciano, the legendary singer and guitarist with the inimitable style, is perhaps best known to U.S. audiences for his perennial season favorite ?Feliz Navidad? and his smash cover of ?Light My Fire.? His acoustic version of the Doors? psychedelic hit made him a pioneer of pop crossover decades before other Latin superstars followed the trail he blazed. In a career that spans three decades, Feliciano has made 69 albums, earning 45 gold or platinum records, winning six Grammy Awards and countless accolades as one of the world?s greatest guitarists.

Albita, the rootsy singer from Havana's La V?bora barrio, who became the toast of Miami through her shows at the Centro Vasco. Who sang at President Clinton's second Inaugural Ball. Who released seven distinctive albums (one in Cuba, two in Colombia, and four in the U.S.) that sound like no one else in American or Cuban music. Albita became not only a music star but also a style icon. She played all over the U.S., Latin America and Europe, and released three albums in three years. Albita, is four time Grammy nominee, two time Latin Grammy nominee, billboard winner and she was chosen as one of the 100 personality for People magazine in the year 2000.
