Raw, Edgy and Uncensored

On the second Sunday of each month the Formosa Caf? will host the Los Feliz Poetry Slam. The nation's top slam poets perform original, raw, edgy and uncensored Spoken Word poems in an attempt to secure a spot on the Los Feliz Poetry Slam Team, one of only four poetry slam teams in Southern California. Admission is free and a full bar and dinner menu is available. The event begins January 12 at 8 pm at one of Hollywood?s Historical landmarks ? the Formosa Caf? (7156 Santa Monica Blvd. West Hollywood, CA 90046)

The Los Feliz Poetry Slam is produced by Henry K. Priest of Boricua Films, the producers of Urban Graffiti Acting and Poetry Slam television show (Urban Graffiti) and is hosted by Dufflyn Lammers, SlamMaster of the 2004 Los Feliz Poetry Slam Team. Dufflyn is a published poet and has been featured on Russell Simmons? Def Poetry Jam on HBO and a recurring competitor in the Urban Graffiti as well.

The competition is open to all poets and draws in many well-known poets that have been featured on HBO?s Def Poetry, many recurring performers at Da Poetry Lounge (the Nation's largest poetry venue) and many poets that have competed in Urban Graffiti Acting and Poetry Slam festival and TV show. The event is complete with a host, disc jockey, guest performers, comedy by sketch comedy troupe Third Floor: Los Angeles, and of course the audience as judges! In addition to the slam competition, well-known celebrities and legendary poets such as Piri Thomas are invited to perform. (Event dates: 1/11, 2/8, 3/14, 4/11, 5/9 semi-finals, 5/23 semi-finals, 6/13 Slam Finals)

In June, four poets and an alternate will be chosen by judges pulled from the audience to represent the event sponsor, Urban Graffiti, and the Los Feliz Poetry Slam at the National Competition in St. Louis, MI in August, 2004. Last year the 2003 Los Feliz Poetry Slam Team ranked among the top slam teams in the country at Poetry Slam Inc.'s (PSi) National Poetry Slam and there is much anticipation for their upcoming return to Nationals. This event is a registered venue with Poetry Slam Inc., a non-profit 501c3.
