?Once Again, Con Ganas!

Once again, in an effort of love of the Gente and a good time, Chuck Herrera & the crew of East Valle Promotions have succeeded in bringing the best of Chicano entertainment to the San Fernando Valley on a beautiful Southern Califas Friday evening. That hip, good looking, and over 40 (just a bit) Chicano crowd of the San Fernando Valley make it a party every time I go there.

So it was, in my continuing musical odyssey to seek out mi Gente in musical action, I was once again privvy to make it out to The Fairways Restaurant, Tavern & Country Club in Pacoima , California, where heavy hitters SATISFACTION, along with The West Side Crew brought out the best in Chicano Boogie and good times.

One of my favorite Southern Califas Chicano groups, who have been receiving national attention because of their versatile talent, high energy, and commanding stage presence, SATISFACTION, featuring the high octane vocals of the beautiful Eileen Benavides, made their first San Fernando Valley appearance at the Fairways in Classy fashion.

Resplendant in matching outfits that radiate an aura of showmanship epitomized, SATISFACTION always puts on a great show, deftly going from one musical genre to another, in both English & Spanish, in a dazzling display of Chicano talent that filled the dance floor with smiling, contented Gente...in the zone!

Each band member "showed their stuff" for the Valley crowd, giving up instrumental solos that brought loud whoops & gritos in appreciation for their talent. Guitarist Chris Reserva lead the charge, his hard-driving lead guitar and stimulating stage presence balancing out perfectly with Robert Benevides' mas chingon percussion & vocals, their dancing performance just inviting you to join them. They had me out there! In tribute to the older crowd, and bringing pleasantly surprised smiles, the band put out on an electrifying version of "Magic Carpet Ride" that filled the dance floor in one of the more fun moments of the evening, causing even the stiffest of Veteranos to clown and ponte chancla on the dance floor.

As anticipated, the highlight of the performance was Eileen Benavides' (pictured) beautiful, soul scorching version of the Etta James classic "At Last", which the band graciously dedicated to my Lady & I (thanks, guys!). This song has been getting heavy airplay lately across the Country, and has been requested for four weeks in a row on my show. Sensually hypnotizing the couples on the dance floor & adding a romantic atmosphere to the moment, you could feel the crowd stop & stare in anticipation as Eileen took her trademark half step back, drew in a breath and let loose with one of the most awe inspiring vocal rolls ? which seems to get longer each time I hear her ? you're ever gonna hear, bringing a roar from the crowd in appreciation, as "One of ours" does it like it's supposed to be done!

Afterwards, The Westside Crew, knowing they had a hard act to follow, came out in full force, causing a forceful breeze with their hard hitting Latin Brass sound that had SATISFACTION band members sticking around & hitting the dance floor for their first set. It's so gratifying that talented & experienced musicians can openly show their respect for each other, especially the RAZA flavor, as I had seen a couple of The West Side Crew chewin' rug during SATISFACTION's sets, and now the compliment was being returned in kind. True talent knows no pettiness, and there was none here tonight!

West Side Crew, a 10 member Chicano group out of the Santa Monica- Venice area, well-known & popular along the Southern Califas coast, also showed their stuff, hitting all the corners, from Rock n' Roll to Funk to hip-hop, adding Chicano flavored congas, timbales & brass to every tune, making them there own. A lot of the crowd, coming in late after the Laker game, were treated to a great evening of music & dance, which made the Laker's loss a lot less painful....ha!

Once again, a great evening of Chicano entertainment & dancing , with that great Chicano crowd of the San Fernando Valley, at the Fairways in Pacoima. You know I'll be back! Gracias to Chuck Herrera & the crew of East Valle Promotions.

And so my journey through the musical corridors of Aztlan continues, bringing you the full report here, only on LatinoLA.com .
