Bunnie Rivera has been acting for nearly eighteen years. As a Latina in the industry she has found success playing ?nursemaids?, ?mothers?, ?grandmothers? and ?the help? in films like ?Chasing Papi? and on shows like ?ER?, ?The Shield? and ?CSI.? Six months ago, Rivera decided to go forth with her lifelong passion for telling stories and make a film that will help her be seen and heard as a Latina, as a Mother, and as an actress.
For her first film, "This Land Is . . .", she has turned to her own Latino community. Read the news on any day and you will see many young Latino lives lost in gang activities. Her own family has been hit hard by these sad statistics. How do these kids end up seduced by a life of violence and crime? Why does the gang become their family? By examining the life of one young boy?s spiral toward gang life, perhaps we can understand why they feel cast out of society, and as a result, perhaps we will hear their cries for help. This Land Is . . . is a tragic story that Rivera has wanted to tell for years. She decided to use it as the backdrop for a film about hope; a film that might provide a better future for young Latinos in similar situations.
"For This Land Is . . . " Rivera?s production company, QuuQuui Films (pronounced koo koo ee) has teamed with the LA Film Lab (www.lafilmlab.com), a group of producers in Los Angeles who mentor film projects and assist them throughout the development and production of their material. She has been developing the script since June of this year. The goal is to shoot an impressive trailer for the film and continue developing the script while searching for feature financing. Production of the trailer is set for January of 2005. Together, QuuQuui Films and the LA Film Lab are looking for financial aid and donation-in-kind assistance to bring this important story to light. Anyone interested in becoming part of the team through donations of time, financial assistance, or in-kind donations should contact Bunnie at email@example.com for a press kit on the film.
