Latino Heritage on A&E

To help celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Hispanic people in America, A&E Television Networks will present over 40 hours of Latino-themed programming on A&E, The History Channel, The Biography Channel, History International and THC En Espanol.

From September 15th through October 15th, viewers will be treated to a vast array of informative and entertaining programs. Programming, which ranges from The Spanish American War to Biographies of Carlos Santana, Gloria Estefan and Antonio Banderas, will air in The History Channel Classroom and A&E Classroom, making it available for schools, teachers, and libraries. History International will present 28 documentaries, 5 of which will broadcast in Spanish, while The Biography Channel will highlight the lives of influential Hispanics.

A&E Television Networks is also teaming up with local cable companies on a national Hispanic Heritage Photo Collage contest which is open to all high school level classes. Students are challenged to create photo collage posters that fit within a Hispanic theme and that represent the richness of Hispanic culture. The winning class can receive up to $2000 for their classroom, a Kodak Digital Camera and an A&E Television VHS Video Library.

?Hispanic Heritage Month shines a spotlight on the contributions of Latin culture to American life,? says Dr. Libby O?Connell, Vice President of Educational Initiatives for A&E Television Networks. ?Our combination of entertainment and information means that our viewers ? whatever their background ? will find shows that interest them. Plus, schools, students and community associations benefit, not only from our programming, but from our complimentary on-line educational resources and the national photo contest designed to help students make a personal connection to Hispanic heritage.?
