Connecting Passions

Listening to ChicanoExpress on the world wide web. Each day encompasses how talented mi gente is. From the traditional Chicano sounds of Lalo Guerrero and the uniquely smooth flavors of Malo, Satisfaction, Chocolate, Balance, Grupo Bravo, The East L.A. Revue, and El Chicano for Mi Gente de Califas and the beautiful brass sounds of Ruben Ramos, Latin Breed, Bob Gallarza, and the traditional Chicano sound of Conjunto Bernal, Los Chachos, David Lee, David Marez, Jay Perez, Rodeo, and others..... Crazy Chuy and Frankie Firme are connecting the States through song...

Musica inolvidable que mueve el corazon....

My wonderful husband and partner Mario Gonzalez born and raised in Hollister, California swells with pride ?With Every Beat of My Heart? ?Angel Baby? and the beautiful sounds he and his dad listened to while cruising down the Boulevard in their ?63 Riviera...... Years later, the replica of that vision of perfection still sits in a covered garage on 6th Street here en el Valle de Tejas.....

Can?t help but call him every time I hear one of those heart wrenching, cheek to cheek love ballads. Whether its compositions de Tejas or the oldies but goldies of Califas the feeling is inexplicable.........

Pero ahora para mover se uno a un ritmo suave and sway to those songs that jerk you to the dance floor - - are the sounds that come in through the dot coms of KCLAFM and CHICANOEXPRESS. Two wonderful places combining the best of both worlds and transfuses those blood born arrangements that run through every Chicano heart....

Fair and Just -- ready to contribute their support through their labor of love, both individuals have many many years experience touching people?s lives.

Arriving at work, I anxiously await their next show. It is evident these two commendable dj?s have the public in mind, playing their hearts out and presenting Nuestra Raza?s talent like it should be displayed -- with insurmountable respect and uninterrupted attention..... Adding their own key phrases and expressions, they both do an extraordinary job of bringing us the best......

Thinking I?ve heard it all, they floor me with CrazyChuy?s rendition of ?Stop in the name of Love? by R. Kelly and Frankie Firme?s rendition of ?I wanna sex you up? by Colour me Badd, gets my fingers snapping and my foot tappin.... bringing stares from my co-workers but I don?t care, when the music moves me, I?ve never been one to shy away from expressing my love for music.....

Singing, keeping the rhythm in my mind, I get off my chair and head towards the copier room with a few smooth dance moves, bringing my arms to chest level as I snap my fingers and shuffle side to side..... Woooh, it?s my Chicano soul taking over....

Stop in the name of love.... singing, one of my co-workers walks in and thinks I?m singing the Supremes and says he loves oldies. I bring him over to my computer and show him what I?m dancing to and he says, ?nombre esta de aquellas? and ?SHOOP? another one bites the dust! He?s in total Chicano rapture.....

As I continue working.... I chuckle at the thought of my brothers having soooo much soul. Then I hear Frankie Firme playing ?I wanna sex you up? How?s that for Chicano flair..... finesse and flavor to show all the Chicanitas what our men are made of..... I gots me one, I?m sure you do too. I again call my honey and say ?Hey baby, it?s me again? and he laughs and says ?what?s Chuy playing now?? I answer ?No it?s Frankie this time? I let him listen in while the words "kiss me each morning for a thousand years" flow through the ear piece.... I tell him, ?If you?re daddy were here today, I?d thank him for bringing you into this world and into my life? He softly chuckles and says ?I love you too baby? his beautiful words sending chills through my entire body...... Chicano men sure do know how to weaken a lady and melt her like a hot knife through butter.......

Almost at the end of my day - - Chuy and Frankie have prepared me for a wonderful evening.....

So tell me, what moves YOU throughout YOUR day?

Frankie Firme spins the best west coast oldies on www.kclafm.com and Crazy Chuy spins the best of the best of Chicano/Tejano on www.chicanoexpress.com. Every show displaying Nuestra Raza Chicana?s diversity and versatility.......
