Only Complaint: It Wasn't Long Enough!

On Friday, October 29, the Wilmington Jaycee Foundation organized a concert/dance fundraiser for the Wilmington Jaycee Athletic Complex youth programs. The event featured the Susie Hansen Latin Band and Tierra featuring Rudy Salas (pictured).

Organizing the event was very stressful: Did we have enought supplies, did we sell enought tickets, did we have enough publicity,is anyone going to come?

In anticipation of the dance starting, the minutes seemed like hours. Between the band members getting lost, a carwreck that threatened to close or delay the concert ,and a last minute delivery of concession supplies, it was suprising that the concert scheduled to open at 7pm started on time.

Once the music started the dance floor was full, and the concession lines were long.

The people who attended had nothing but complements when it was over. Susie Hansen sold many albums and gave autographs hours after the band stopped playing. Tierra played and the dance floor was never empty.

In all it was a very successful event.

A week later I am still receving complements about the Susie Hansen, Tierra and the MC, LatinoLA's very own Abelardo de la Pena Jr.

Special thanks to our sponsors Excel Funding (Victor Gutierrez) California Sulphur, Mexicola, Thee Mr. Duran Show and especially LatinoLA.com for publicizing the concert. Their help made everything a success.

People had a great time while raising funds that will benefit hundreds of youth.
