Concert of the Year: LBE Awards

La Banda Elastica celebrates its 12th Anniversary on Wednesday, November 24 in the heart of downtown Long Beach.

Throughout the years, LBE has showcased some of the most exciting, trend-setting Latin Alternative artists around, and this year is no exception, with inclusion of El Gran Silencio, Andrea Echeverri (of Aterciopelados), Ely Guerra, Ojos De Brujo and Ni?o Astronauta.

What began as a humble black & white fanzine that set out to document the then-nascent musical genre known as 'Latin Alternative', has grown into a glossy, must-read magazine that Rolling Stone has hailed as 'The Bible' of Alternative Latin music and culture. Launched 12 years ago by the husband and wife team of Emilio Morales and Maria Madrigal, La Banda Elastica (LBE) is the publication which readers on multiple continents rely upon to stay abreast of the latest Spanish and bicultural musical trends.

LBE's staff of respected journalists and designers have won several prestigious national awards for Outstanding Editorial content and Graphic Design Excellence. Respected news organizations such as the Los Angeles Times have consistently described La Banda Elastica as "...the most influential publication in the Latin Alternative world..."

The Annual LBE Music Awards was created in 1994 to celebrate and recognize the achievements and talent of the artists that are taking this exciting musical genre to the forefront of the international music scene. Before Caf? Tacuba were appearing on 'Late Night With Conan O'Brien', before Kinky's music was appearing in the background of every TV show from 'Nip/Tuck' to 'Kingpin', the first exposure that most major Latin Alternative artists ever received was in the pages of La Banda Elastica or performing at their annual Music Awards. So it should come to no surprise that this year 2004 comes to an end, LBE has put together what is likely to be its most musically ambitious awards show to date.

"Publishing La Banda Elastica is one of the joys of our lives, despite the challenges inherent in being an independent publication" says publisher Emilio Morales. "My team and I still get excited and are constantly blown away by the music made by Latin Alternative artists from all over the world, and we want to share that excitement with our readers by introducing new artists and scenes in every issue of the magazine. We created the LBE Music Awards to pay homage, respect and honor to the many talented musicians, writers and producers in this vibrant, fast growing musical category. 'Latin Alternative' is the pure definition of the word - the alternative to all mainstream music in the Latin Genre".

The concert will be held at Vault 350 located on 350 Pine Ave, Long Beach. Doors open at 7 PM. The event is presented by Direct TV, Tequila El Jimador, Gibson, Honda, LATV, Sam Ash Music, Sierra Club and Tower Records. Tickets only available by calling 888.808.2858 or at www.vault350.com
