Latino Loop got to catch a sneak preview of the new movie "Spanglish" from famed director James L. Brooks.... and it was wonderful, we recommend it highly! The film stars Paz Vega, Adam Sandler and Tea Leoni, a comedy/drama about Flor, a beautiful Mexican woman and mother of a12-year old golden-girl, who becomes a housekeeper for an affluent Los Angeles family. The result is a collision of cultures and values and an honest look at life-altering commitments such as marriage, parenting and devotion to family. The film is Executive Produced by Cristy Haubegger, founder of Latina magazine.
The 2005 GRAMMY nominees were announced this week, with Los Lonely Boys scoring 4 nominations (Record of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Pop Performance Duo or Group with Vocal, and Best Rock Instrumental Performance). Best Latin Pop Album nominees include Marc Anthony, Bacilos, Paulina Rubio, Diego Torres & Carlos Vives. Cameron Diaz came in at #2 on Hollywood Reporters top-earning female celebrities list, pulling in a high of $10.3 million per film. Jennifer Lopez once again made the list, dropping down one notch from #9 to #10. Lopez still brings in a whopping $6 million per film.
George Lopez's autobiography "Why You Crying?, a funny, inspirational and sometimes heartbreaking rags-to-riches story about the comedian's dysfunctional childhood and rise to fame is #20 on the New York Times' Best Seller list. Lopez will be performing 7 shows at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles beginning December 27th, and his holiday tv movie "Naughty or Nice" will air on ABC's Wonderful World of Disney on December 11th.

Haz Montana, VP/Programming for Entravision's radio division, has parted ways with the company.
Ozomatli, Kinky and Juana Molina will be performing at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles for a special Latin-flavored Christmas show on December 22nd.
Gloria Trevi launched her new album "Como Nace el Universo", just weeks after being exonerated and released from prison. The singer is scheduled to make her first appearance on Mexican television this month, and has plans to kick off a concert tour in Mexico and the US after the new year. Rumor has it that a movie about her life is in the works.

Longtime Univision president, McHenry T. Tichenor Jr., is resigning his post as President of the company at the end of this month. A 23 year veteran of Hispanic Broadcasting (since renamed Univision Radio), Tichener will continue on board as a consultant and director for the company.

Miguel Cancel, ex-Menudo member, was hurt in a car crash in Florida this week. Cancel, now a police officer, was thrown from the vehicle when it overturned, and is now in the hospital with a sever injury to his left hand.
Congrats to Texan cult singer/songwriter David Garza, who's "little indie box set that could ", Strange Mess of Flowers, was listed in USA Today's year'end list and Holiday best buys for 2004. Garza joins the ranks of Paul Simon, Burt Bacharach, The Beatles, Duran Duran, The Rolling Stones and other greats also on the list.
Chase, the retail banking unit of JPMorgan Chase & Co, announced a $1 million grant to the national Council of La Raza to be used for financial education and land acquisition for community development projects such as affordable housing, health centers and charter schools across the country.

Gloria Estefan will write her first book, a story for children inspired by her unconventional looking bulldog Noelle. The book will be published in English and Spanish, focusing on the adventures of Noelle, who doesn't feel like she fits into her new adopted home, and aims to help children feel alienated or ostracized because they are different.
