The newest theatre company to make Los Angeles home has been busy. East Los Angeles Repertory Theatre Company will be producing for the theatre one of the most popular books by author Sandra Cisneros. The play has been adapted by Amy Ludwig and will be performing for a four week run at La Casa del Mexicano in Los Angeles.
The book, which was chosen as Los Angeles Unified School District's book of the year, is written from the point of view of Esperanza. A young Latina living in a poverty stricken barrio in Chicago. In a series of vignettes, Esperanza recalls the vibrant events and colorful people that shared her life as a young child and shaped the woman she becomes.
The poetic and imaginative language of Sandra Cisnero's beloved book comes to life on stage with eight actors re-creating the subtle yet powerful scenes propelled The House on Mango Street to become an instant classic.
