Luis Alfaro's Electricidad Vecinos Nights
LatinoLA sponsors two special nights of theatre, April 8 & 10
Published on LatinoLA: April 2, 2005
Set in a barrio on an urban Eastside, Sophocles? 2,500 year-old tale is transformed into a vibrant, vital and thoroughly unforgettable myth for the modern age. ?Electricidad? by Luis Alfaro, and directed by Lisa Peterson, has its West Coast Premiere on April 7.
"Electricidad" is a contemporary look at the power and consequences of revenge, and the damage it causes to a family and a community. The story is dominated by a daughter, who is mourning the loss of her murdered father, the former leader of the South Side Locos. Driven by all-consuming passions of love and loyalty, hate and vengeance, Electricidad and her exiled brother, Orestes, begin to believe that their father?s death must be avenged; the murderer must be punished, not by the courts but rather by the swift retaliation of barrio justice.
Two special Vecinos Nights will take place on Friday, April 8 at 8 pm and Sunday, April 10 at 7 pm. Vecinos Nights includes: Good seating' Private Post Show Reception where you will: Meet Luis Alfaro and the cast; Enjoy Food, Dessert and Drinks; and Participate in a discussion moderated by special guest Mary Louise Hart, programing ancient drama at the Outdoor Theater, Getty Villa in Malibu.
