MoFo Making its Mark

In 2004, Ernesto Ramirez and Amadeus Chavez had an idea. A vision. Their vision was to create an organization that was 100% dedicated to rock en espa?ol in all of its genres (i.e. alternative, ska, punk, classic rock, metal etc). The goal was to take the movement out of the underground and in to the foreground. They were both part of the exploding Los Angeles Spanish rock scene.

Ramirez was part of the pioneering L.A. rock en espa?ol band Maria Fatal and had produced records for several local rock en espa?ol bands in his recording studio. Amadeus, an entertainment industry veteran, had recently been impressed with the energy and buzz of the local Spanish Rock scene and had started managing Spanish rock acts in 2002. They both knew there was no reason that Spanish Rock had to be kept a secret.

MoFo Records was an independent record label Ernesto had created in 2001 to release the last Maria Fatal CD of new material (Dermis). Nothing had really been done with MoFo since then and Amadeus and Ernesto agreed they should use MoFo as the vehicle for their vision.

In the fall of 2004, MoFo Records joined up with the Verdad y Justicia label group, which has national distribution through the Navarre Corporation, a leading distributor of propriety and non-propriety home entertainment PC software, music and DVDs. This partnership meant that an L.A. Spanish rock band could have their release on MoFo Records end up in a Tower Records in New York City or Dallas, Texas. This gave the record label and the struggling Spanish rock scene something they did not have before: Hope.

The major labels were not sympathetic to Spanish Rock and they remain that way to this day. Their focus shifted on the bigger dollars that reggaeton and Latin hip-hop acts provided. The bands playing rock en espanol genres were faced with either selling out or a life of never having their CD distributed. MoFo and Verdad y Justicia came in at just the right time.

To celebrate MoFo Records? spring and summer releases, they will be having a showcase at the famous House of Blues on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood on Thursday, April 28th. Maria Fatal will be headlining with award winning electro-rockers Nefalim and fellow MoFo artists Estigma and Flor Veneno, who have releases in April and June! There are a limited number of complimentary tickets available by emailing moforecords@sbcglobal.net or calling 323-712-0569.
