The 1st Summer Week-End in Aztlan
Satisfaction rocks Santa Fe Springs, and other good 411
Hot...hot...and HOT!! That's a pretty accurate description of the first late spring -early summer week end in The Land of 1000 Dances where the music got the Gente out to steppin', and gave a hint of how sittin' & bitchin' about the way things are just isn't going to improve your digestion a bit !

Despite record gas prices that make you just want to curse out the gas companies in 3 different languages and take the bus, and record rains that ruined the rudebegas, last week~end brought out the Southern Califas sunshine and the Gente en masse to hear great music and share the Brown power and love. The beaches & parks were full of happy children laughing and playing, the fine scent bar-b-que was everywhere, and music filled the air.
This weekend, SATISFACTION started off the action at the Santa Fe Springs Swapmeet (formerly known as the La Mirada Swapmeet) at the quad center stage, where even on a hot , blistering afternoon, SATISFACTION got the Gente up to dance! Think about it...a swapmeet...where the Gente go for discount deals on clothes, toys, music, car parts and other needed items while enjoying outdoor shopping among the beautiful Brown Gente de Aztlan, who else could make a Chicana stop shopping & boogaloo in her chanclas but SATISFACTION? I ran into internet radio's Maloman Roybal, who got out there & boogied.
My Lady and I just went to hear the band, (and I thought I could score on a couple of t-shirts) , when we found ourselves out boogallooing. Man....the music got so good (..SATISFACTION...you have doubts?) I actually saw a couple of Brown brothers IN WHEELCHAIRS get out there with their ladies and boogalooed.
...THAT, my friends...is the power of CHICANO music...and the heart & soul of my people!!
Rocky Padilla & friends rocked it at BB King's in Universal City's Citywalk for the Gente. The Latin Alternative Revolution continues at the Zen Sushi bar in Eaglerock. MALO, El CHICANO, WAR & TIERRA rocked the Greek theater. I saw Steven & Janie Chavez of the East L.A. Revue, and Richard "Thee MR." Duran and his lady Pat in the audience enjoying the show at the Greek.
Later on that evening, The Blues Straight Up Band, featuring the marvelous Lava Gonzalez, rocked the San Fernando Valley at Tia Chucha's in Sylmar.
The East L.A. Revue All Star band was on a well deserved break this week end, but Steven Chavez tells me they'll be rocking the House at BB King's Saturday the 28th, and again at JR's Sports bar in Covina on June 4th.
Thursday, May 26th, the return of the legendary Aztlan group YAQUI, make their first appearance in many years at the Puente Hills Hop.
Joe Battaan (picture) will be performing at the Santa Fe Springs swapmeet on Saturday , May 28th, and many other popular Southern Califas heavy hitters like SATISFACTION, SANGRIA, THE EAST L.A. REVUE, SUAVE, BALANCE and THEE MIDNITERS will be performing summer concerts there in the future. Where else can you catch great entertainment, do some rightous outdoor shopping, see some beautiful BROWN people in their finest summer clothes, and enjoy the fabled Southern Califas sunshine for only $ 1.00 ADMISSION???? ~ No where else but the Santa Fe Springs swapmeet!!!!! FREE PARKING ~ $1.00 admission!!
Joe Battaan will also be performing at the Riverside Civic Auditorium along with Frankie Karl, The Younghearts and many other legendary music legends are to be added August 13th.
