Cuban Trilogy

Carlos Lacamara, a professional actor for over twenty years, has recently completed a new play, ?HAVANA BOURGEOIS? to be read at the Ford Amphitheatre as part of the Ford?s Latino Playreading Series. Set in an advertising agency during Fidel Castro?s revolution, "HAVANA BOURGEOIS" is the second in a trilogy of Cuban plays Carlos plans to write.

You might recognize Carlos Lacamara (pictured) as he has appeared in over one hundred television shows, including recent appearances in ?CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM,? ?CSI MIAMI? and ?FRIENDS.? He played the role of ?Paco? on NBC?S ?NURSES? for three seasons, and plays the father in Nickelodeon?s groundbreaking hit series, ?THE BROTHERS GARCIA?.

But how did Carlos decide to write this inimitable Cuban triology? In April of 2000, Carlos Lac?mara returned to Cuba after an absence of forty years. Having been only two years-old when his family left Cuba, Carlos was moved by the hardships of life on the island. His observations and conversations with his family and other Cubans inspired him to write the play, ?BECOMING CUBAN,? which The Los Angeles Times called ?A rare, insightful new play,? and the LA Weekly proclaimed the ?Best Political Drama of 2002.? In 1999, Carlos? first play, ?CRASHING HEAVEN,? was produced at the Court Theater in Los Angeles. He co-wrote several comic plays throughout the nineties, including ?ELVIS, LIES AND VIDEOTAPE,? ?THE FIRING SQUAD? and ?HIT AND RUN? which was developed into a pilot presentation by Fox TV.

On Saturday, June 25th at 1:00 p.m. watch an amazing cast read ?HAVANA BOURGEOIS?, including: Tony Plana, Pamela Shaddock, Nasir Najeib, Tonyo Melendez, Alex Fernandez, Patrick Mu?oz, Diana Burbano, Tom Shelton and Jerry Oshinski, directed by Bert Rosario.
