The king of reggaeton will be performing in two different concerts that will take place on Friday, July 22 at the Hollywood Park & Casino in Los Angeles and July 23 at the Santa Clara Fairgrounds in San Francisco. Born in Puerto Rico, Tego Calder?n has earned international acclaim for his unique musical style among rappers; mixing the rhythms of his native Puerto Rico and African rooted bomba and plena genres, together with salsa and reggae dance hall styles. His debut album, ?El Abayarde? broke sales records and reached Platinum album, leading to a phenomenon surpassing economic, social and age barriers.
His second album, ?El Enemy de Los Guas?biri?, a collector?s album of recorded titles, by Tego has become another success for the artist remaining first in sales since its launch. Tego has collaborated with the greatest exponents of various musical genres including Fat Joe, Lil John, 50 Cent, The Game and Wyclef Jean.
Tego was selected as the new image for the prestigious french Hennessy cognac for 2004 and 2005 in a campaign launched in all the United States, Europe and the Caribbean. Recently, Atlantic Records has announced the signing of Tego Calderon via a long-term, worldwide deal with Calderon?s own Jiggiri Records label, becoming the first artist in this genre to ink a global pact with a major label.
His next album will carry English and Spanish titles ?The Underdog? and ?El Subestimado? featuring collaborations with Don Omar and Eddie D, as well as with major rap stars, and is slated for release in October. Among Calder?n's achievements are found the Tu Musica award, nominated for the Bilboard and Latin Grammy awards, Revelation Artist of NY award, nominated for ?El Premio de la Gente? and ?El Premio Lo Nuestro? awards, and he won the Best International Artist of the Year at The Source Awards in 2004.
