Too Much Money

Funny how trips vary.........

Riding on a plane on a business trip sat a very well dressed lady to my right and a snobbish young girl who kept looking at herself in the mirror over and over to my left. I figured the 1 hour and 50 minute flight to El Paso (that would continue to San Diego, California) seemed uneventful. As we sat comfortably in our seats, left lady answered her phone and began talking in this deep snobbish vocal type tone to someone on the other end. She began to state that she?d be in a bit late because the flight had been delayed so she wanted to make sure the ?car? would be waiting for her on the ground so she wouldn?t be further inconvenienced. She asked the person on the phone if her two pets had been taken to the salon like she had ordered and asked if they had replaced their second hand water, since she so detested them drinking anything but Avian..... Rolling my eyes, I sat back and said ?yup, uneventful?.

The young lady on my right called her girls and said she?d be in a little late and said ?The nerve of her travel agent to have given her such a seat and inconvenience her by having the flight delayed? Gosh, I thought ?how inconsiderate of them to take some of her shopping and partying time. How rude (smirk)

As we were set to take off, and only until then did these two ladies close up their micro cell phones and snuggly tuck them away. I thought well, there?s goes my time for conversation, I have NOTHING in common with these two momma warbucks.... I guess I didn?t want to talk to anyway. I?ll just sit here quietly and enjoy the ride. Looking over to the gentleman over to the right of the young lady, gazingly he enjoyed the view of these two ?oh so fabulous? ladies. Making an ice breaking remark to the young girl on my right ?so where are you headed? graciously accepting his invitation to conversate, she replied, ?My friends just came in from London, I didn?t get to join them because I had another predicament so we?re getting together in San Diego to cruise in my friend?s daddy?s yacht.... ? "Great!" the man replied. As they continued their conversation about their lavish trips to far off places, I looked out the window and said, Thank God I brought my head phones. Atleast I don?t have to listen to these two people compete for bragging rights. While the lady on my left looked at me like I had no business being where I was.... I figured thank goodness, I don?t have much to say to these people anyway..... so I simply sat back and waited to listen to Boney James and the Jazzmasters on my headphones. Patiently waiting for the pilot to come over the intercom and say we were clear to turn on our electrical equipment, then getting the go?head, I calmly turned it up and off I went into jazz rapture..... aaaah, much better.....

Arriving in El Paso, I called my hotel shuttle and waited a few minutes for them to arrive. Arriving to picking me up, the young shuttle driver loaded my luggage, and off I went to my hotel. The young man introduced himself and asked, ?are you here visiting relatives? ?no, on business? ?Oh? he said. ?Is this your first time in El Paso?? ?No, I?ve been here before.? As we stopped at a light, he opened a cooler in front of the shuttle and said, would you like something to drink? Chuckingly, I asked ?do you have any Avian?? Telling him the story.....

Upon entering my hotel, I had the most dreadful ?embarrassing experience? never mind what it was (hehe) but I?ll tell you, the people that were there, will surely remember me :)

Attending my half day training session - - then abruptly rushing to the airport to catch my return flight. I answered the phone as I arrived to the inspection/metal detector area, hurringly I tell my honey I have to go, that I?ll call him when I get through, only to get flagged and sent to secondary inspection. Gees what did I say? (duh, being a latina woman was enough but telling him that I?d call him when I got through only sounded like I was carrying something and we were gonna celebrate if I got through) I?ll tell you, I didn?t think about it at the time but it doesn?t take a genius to figure why I got sent to secondary inspection (ha). After standing there wearing close to nothing and having a LARGE woman pat me down, they returned my shoes, jacket, purse, headset, and sent me on my way, my flight just 5 minutes to boarding was sure a close call (whew).

Rushing to the ?B? line, I sighed and finally composed myself. Chuckling at the thought of being displayed for all to see. Noticing some people stared at me, I nervously fixed myself and thought they probably saw me at secondary inspect (haha). The bad thing was, men were staring because they knew that under my jacket was a very tight two sizes too small white dress that showed every curve of my body (you know those favorite dresses you know you can't part with cuz you know you'll fit into soon and you're (this) close.... I hate that, that?s why I wear a jacket, I hate too tight clothes. Worse thing about it, I forgot my slip! (Turning beet red)

Back on the flight again to Houston this time, same scenario, travel bragging rights amongst the two people to my left and educational bragging rights to my right..... Thank God for headphones, some people are so into themselves, its pitiful......

Arriving in Houston, having the time of my life, overdoing it a bit but, what the heck it was WELL worth it..... Spending time with my brothers and sisters is always a fabulously unforgettable event! Only wish we were living closer.... although its only six hours away, sometimes even that little travel is hard to schedule so we are ALL together.....

Returning to the Valley from Houston, I had a choice to go back on the plane for $168.00 plus taxes, fees, and what nots, but...... I decided to go Greyhound for $25 bucks and spend the rest shopping. Besides I would be leaving in the wee hours and arrive first thing in the morning, I could either sleep at my sisters or sleep on the bus and arrive at home when I woke up..... so Greyhound it was.....

On the bus were the nicest people you can ever imagine. An older lady asking me if I had brought anything to cover myself with since I was wearing short sleeve and the bus gets really cold.... I told her I?d get something from my bag and she said, (in Spanish of course) if you don?t have anything, I have an extra sweater. Oh how sweet, and this lady doesn?t even know me. Getting on the bus, looking for a seat, finding one midway to the back. I sat down and tried to lift the arm rest and the arm rest wouldn?t budge. A gentleman to my left saw me and stood up and helped me out. When neither of us could seem to make it work, he said, here take my seat, I?ll move to another one. I said, ?oh no, don?t worry, I?ll just get another? and he moved anyway....... again another sweet gesture, my goodness.

As the bus began to move and we were on our way. An hour into our travel, the bus stops at the first store and says we will be taking a 10 minute break to get coffee or whatever and I just sat sleepily in my seat..... A lady one seat ahead of me, gets up and asks me, ?do you want something from the store?.....(how sweet) I said, ?no thank you, but thank you for being offering.?

Off we went.......everyone back in the bus...... I turned my headphones on, fell asleep and before I knew it, we were in Corpus dropping off some travelers. Stopping at the first store after Corpus, I decided to get off and use the ladies room. Yawning as a gentleman opened the door for me to the store, he asked ?would you like a cup of coffee?? I said, no thank you, I?m gonna get some water, I?m pretty thirsty? and he responded, ?well then, let me get that for you? and I said, ?thanks!? Getting back on the bus, the gentleman handed me the bottled water, tucked himself in his seat, fixed his pillow and fell fast asleep.

Arriving at my destination, the bus driver held out his hand and helped me off the bus, unloaded my luggage and said, ?thank you for traveling Greyhound?.......

What a wonderful experience......... I thought...... gosh these travelers are hardworking, humble individuals who care about the comfort of the next person and to think, those air travelers.... having so much money seemed to care less about anyone but themselves.......

If too much money makes you snobbish and uncaring....... I?d rather be hardworking, caring, and have just enough money to get me by...
