Lupe Honored for Emmy Nom

On September 11th, Hennessy Cognac, the number one selling cognac in the world, celebrated Lupe Ontiveros? Emmy Nomination for Outstanding guest actress in a comedy series in Desperate Housewives at the ?Win or Lose? party at the Friars hotel in Beverly Hills.
Here, she's flanked by Jacob Vargas and Kiki Melendez.

Marc Anthony will star in his next film as Puerto Rican salsa legend, Hector Lavoe, while Jennifer Lopez - who is also producing the film - will play his wife.

Procter & Gamble and pastime are heading the list of the top 25 advertisers in Hispanic magazines. Some of the companies include P&G, leading the list with a 68% increase in spending, followed by L'Oreal upping its spending by 22.%, General Motors Corp. increasing 5%, Johnson and Johnson with a 41% increase followed by Ford with a 9% increase since last year.

As of this season, 29% of baseball players on opening day roster of America's favorite pasttime were born outside the United States, including 91 Dominicans, 46 Venezuelans, 34 Puerto Ricans and 18 Mexicans.

This year's Emmy winners include Mario Perez for his work on ABC's "Lost," Judi Giovanni best Art Direction for "George Lopez,? Julian Gomez won for best Picture Editing for CBS's "The Amazing Race" and Jose Gomez won best Main Title Design for his work on Showtime's "Huff." Congratulation to the winners!

ABC's shows like ?Lost? and ?Desperate Housewives? will make their debut in Spanish this Fall both in dubbing and closed captioning. With Hispanics representing one-seventh of the population according to a recent Census Bureau Report, it is no wonder that TV top heads are paying more attention to this growing market. Kevin Lawrie is replacing Frank Welzer as President/Latin Region for Sony BMG. After 37 years with Sony, Welzer is retiring and Lawrie, who previously headed the offices of the US, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic will be adding the rest of Latin America to his duties. Congrats to Lawrie and big ups to Welzer who built the Sony machine that has been such a major player for so long.

Urban Concepts celebrated Hispanic Heritage month in New York on Sept. 19 with The Rhythm Live/ El Ritmo en Vivo, featuring artist such as rapper Pitbull, Latin R&B artist Marcos Hernandez and Reggaeton artist Sano In. The event celebrated the influence and significant contributions of the Latino community to contemporary Hip Hop culture.

To draw attention to the fast-growing Latino online marketing sector, the Interactive Advertising Bureau's Hispanic Committee will recognize this month, ten of the top business community leaders who have played a role in pioneering interactive Hispanic advertisement.

Univision Music Group, has just tapped Bob Carlton to take over as VP Sales. Carlton is moving over from video house, Ventura Distribution, he has also worked at Rhino Records and WEA Distribution.

The number of Latino Veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces is 1.1 million. About 53,000 Hispanic-origin people were on active duty in 2003 in the United States.

MTV announced the launch a new two-hour weekly Latino version of MTV's TRL WEEKEND COUNTDOWN radio program to begin October 22. The program will be hosted by MTV's Suzie Castillo.

The Empire State Building was lit up in red, white and green in commemoration of the Mexican Independence Day holiday this past Sept. 16.

Colombian rock icon Andrea Echeverri received four nominations for the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards Latin America (VMALAs). The Awards will air on Oct. 20th, and can be viewed in the U.S. on MTV, MTV2, and MTV-Espanol. Her self-titled solo debut also recently received a Latin Grammy nomination in the "Best Female Pop Vocal Album" category.
