Los Angeles area Latinos For Peace in conjunction with La Placita Catholic Church presents:
Dia De Los Muertos / Dia de Paz
November 2, Altar Blessing: 6:30p, Mass 7p
October 26 - November 2
In Los Angeles Latinos For Peace is working with La Placita Catholic Church for special events and displays on the theme of Iraqi war deaths for the Dia De Los Muertos (Day of The Dead/ All Souls Day) activities of this historic church. Dia de Los Muertos, November 2, is an important traditional and contemporary spiritual and cultural time for Mexican and other Latino people to memorialize their dead. In the week leading up to and including Dia de Los Muertos a people's altar memorializing the Iraqi War dead and peace movement efforts to end the war will be installed at the church by Vibiana Aparicio-Chamberlin along with other Latino art works on the themes of US and Iraqi war deaths, grieving US and Iraqi mothers and families and the 1970 Chicano Moratorium. Other special events will be held during this period. On Wednesday evening November 2, Dia De Los Muertos, at 6:30 pm a folk blessing of the altar will be held in the main sanctuary just prior to the 7pm mass. The mass will be for the Latinos For Peace, Women of Juarez and Immigrate people dying trying to enter the US. Latinos For Peace Petitions will be gathered as special offerings that day.
La Placita is the name the people give to Our Lady Queen of Angels Church, the first church established here across from the historic plaza in downtown Los Angeles. It is the spiritual home for scores of thousands of Latinos.
