In the Front Seat of a Car

Boy meets girl, girl meets boy?s other girlfriend? such is the tangled web of the plot in the movie ?Shortstop? written, directed and produced by two young Latinas that are heating up the entertainment industry with mercurial scarlet. As proof of their careers? fast ascension, their latest short film has been selected to screen at the prestigious South by South West Film Festival in Austin, Texas.

Risa Machuca (pictured) and Fanny V?liz? chance meeting while acting in a film has proven to be the piece that completed each other?s careers? puzzle because since this dynamic duo joined forces they have produced and acted in films that have won them praise from industry insiders. Latina Magazine named Machuca one of the new power players in the entertainment industry and Ciudad Magazine recognized V?liz as one of the fast rising filmmakers in the entertainment industry.

Risa Machuca?s incarnations include directing music videos for artists such as Angie Martinez, Khalis, Kindred and Michael Bolton. She also worked as second unit director for videos for artists such as Alicia Keys, Snoop Dogg, Pharrell and Jay Z. This multi talented woman has also graced numerous short films, commercials and recently starred opposite Fred Savage in a project entitled ?Goinz?.

Fanny V?liz has also hit the ground running. Most of her work has been in front of the camera (she will soon be seen in Larry Clark?s Wassup Rockers.) She has written and directed three short films one of which earned her the coveted Promising Film Maker award for the film entitled ?Touch Up? at a film festival funded by Josefina Lopez writer of Real Women Have Curves. Fanny?s last film ?3some? is successfully making the festival circuit and has screened in N.Y., Dallas, Miami, Washington DC and Hollywood. V?liz is also the founder of Criolla Productions with the goal of shedding a unique light into the urban Latino community.

Their latest film ?Shortstop? beat out heavy competition to gain a screening spot at South by South West, one of the most important film festivals in the United States and arguably the world. Machuca and V?liz used their natural talent and charm to raise funds for this film by creating a raffle in which the lucky winner would go on a date with both of them. ?Shortstop? was also produced by Joey Mendez.

?Shortstop? is the story of two young Latinas who discover they?re both sleeping with the same man. They confront each other as they reflect on the decision they are about to make? all in the front seat of a car?

?SHORTSTOP? will screen at South by South West film festival the following dates and times: 11:00 AM, Saturday March 11th - Alamo S. Lamar 1
1:30 PM, Monday March 13th - Alamo S. Lamar 1
11:00 AM, Thursday March 16th - Alamo S. Lamar 1
