I'm A Man

Domestic violence is not in your imagination

I'm A Man

He's a liar and a thief.
He always turns away the leaf.
He seeks that soft girl who thinks her love will change his heart.
And there is no telling her that she is being wronged from the start.

Trying to change him is her mission and all the abuse puts her in a bad position.
I used to be in her situation and all the violence was not my imagination.
I tried to be strong and tell him he was wrong but he kept singing his screwed up song.

"I'm a man, I do what I can for the next beer. I'm a man, I'll do what it takes for the next cheer. Why? Because I'm a man!"

His greed for speed got way out hand.
His thirst for the bottle was his reason to stand.
Cutting me down until I had an angry frown.

Out of this ugly situation came such a beautiful creation.
He spit on them and he couldn't be a real man.
He had no desire to do the best he can.
He keeps singing his screwed up song.

"I'm a man, I do what I can for the next beer. I'm a man, I'll do what it takes for the next cheer. Why? Because I'm a man!"

So to my children I have this to say,
What kind father pushes his daughter away
'cause he's too busy on football Sunday?

What kind of father pays no mind to his son because he's blind?
What kind of man beats your mother? Has a gun for her brother? Doesn't value the life of another?
Your Daddy can sing his screwed up song all alone for the rest of his life
'cause he lost his beautiful wife.

"I'm a man, I do what I can for the next beer. I'm a man, I'll do what it takes for the next cheer. Why? Because I'm a man!"
