Sugarcane Fields

Will be my last resting place

Sugarcane Fields

When I die
I want to be buried
In a sugarcane field

I want the sins of my family
To burn bright
With each harvest

I want my sisters to look
At the red and orange flames
And say that this woman's life
Was not in vain

I want chisme,
Secrets and innuendo
To take their last breathe
At my goodbye
And for lovers
To shed dark tears

I want to fill their lungs
With the saccharine smell of love
And when they contemplate
The last time I smiled,
And the way I kissed
I want them to taste sweetness
In their mouth
