Para mi familia

Listening to my oldies but goodies including: Want ads, I can see clearly now, What does it take, Ain't no woman like the one I?ve got, Hold me tight and other wonderful memoried songs on my computer....... My mind escapes to those beautiful humble days....

Those days of traveling north to Indiana and other states to pick crops. Seems like it was just yesterday.... The music bringing to mind my uncle Esteban Cardenas, Jr. Mi tio Chacho as we called him, was a very hip, very eclectic gentleman (may he R.I.P). He was the kind of man that always had the best. His family of 3 boys and 2 girls were known to many as the Ewings because my uncle always had the best for them. He was the type of man that worked hard, earned his keep extremely well, and was well liked and well respected....

Taking us up north, a family of ten, made pretty good money for a full set of 14 working hands. All that wonderful music.... all those camps, were a reminder of new beginnings, new cities..... My entire family including my uncle, loved music.... Remembering some of his favorites from Fats Domino, to Merle Haggard, to Chubby Checker, to BB King, to the Stylistics, he always heard the latest. Riding around in his truck, dubbing a cowboy hat, a guayabera, nice work boots, and nice dark jeans. Never facing a sweat, he always rode around in air conditioning.... In the farm owner's work truck.... Always a new Ford.... Stopping from time to time to summon the head field person to tell the workers where to go and which field to head to next..... He?d get off his truck and you could hear ?Hold me tight? blaring on the stereo.... Cool, smooth, calm, collected, he had it all.... He was on top of the world! Having so much respect for him, I remember him being a man that was envied by many. And with reason..... there was nothing this man didn?t have or didn?t accomplish!

Why do we lose track of our families..... Since my uncle?s passing, I barely even get a glimpse of his children.... Now grown, Esteban the III who?s a very hard working family man, Eddie, last I heard this handsome boy was still a bachelor (One who grew up to be just like his father; however, he?s involved in produce in Ixtapa, Tapachula, and other areas of Mexico and is well respected just like his dad, my uncle) His 3rd child, Eloy a respectable, extremely handsome, bachelor and police chief, lives in a town approx. 10 miles from us, yet the only time we see him is on the news when there?s a serious crime in his hometown... Sources say he?s been in the police force many years and his passion includes some very heavy politics. Elsa, the 4th child, beautiful as can be and married to a local well respected attorney, I?ve seen her more than the rest... she's still beautiful and a mother of two... Then there?s Elisa from what I understand, she?s very strong willed and can hold her own, has my uncle's strong will. Lastly, their mother mi tia Juanita, never lost her beauty, may God bless her soul for sticking to my uncle when things got rough. My uncle was extremely traditional and never allowed her to work. Times were different back then but she stuck it out.... She was your traditional, caring wife and devoted mother, to date is still a loving caring mother and grandma. Seen her only about twice this past year.

Why songs bring so many memories..... I wonder what we would do without those lyrics, that music, and those memories that kidnap the mind and send you to a beautiful time and place in time....

Sighing..... thanking God..... My family, my brothers, sisters, daughters, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces..... I?m proud of them all! If not for them, my world would be empty and incomplete.... As the months and years go by.... my plan is to showcase each and everyone of them... and even if for our own private viewing, our tree will continue to grow and the best gift we can leave our future generations is a book of our lives to sit, read, and share together.....

You know..... I think I?m gonna go visit my cousins and give them this piece...... I?m sure they?ll treasure it, just like they treasured their dad....

Mi tio.... May he be sittin alongside my brother, chatting, and smiling, looking down, and talking about how pleased he is with his children....

Para mi familia..... con mucho carino....

....A gift from my heart to yours....
