I Feel Like Dancing...Again!
The Night Flight II band breaks out
Once again, as I cruise through the musical corridors and boulevards of Aztlan, I uncover another Chicano music treasure to share with the Gente Brown.

The Night Flight 2 Band of Southern Califas.
Made up of members Peter Jaramillo (drums), Danny Cameron(lead guitar & vocals), Eddie Segura,(bass guitar & vocals), Ronnie Robles (keyboards), J-Everrete (lead vocals), and Kim Soto (lead vocals), the Night Flight 2 Band is the evolutionary product of Danny Cameron's original Night Flight Band of the 1980's, which was a Latin Jazz band that has crossed over to the top 40 -Dance/Club scene with growing success.
With band members packing playing credentials from such highly touted groups as Earth, Wind, and Fire, Kool & The Gang, Expose, Sweet Sensations, SOTO, Average White Band, and Smooth Touch, the Night Flight 2 Band plays a variety of good dance music with flair and bounce that gets dance floors full in a hurry.
Steven Chavez and I caught their act last week at a dinner house in Pasadena and they were good. We had been getting word that they had begun making appearances over the last year at locations such as the Morongo Casino, March Air Force Base, The Puente Hills Hop, The Montebello Inn, The Norwalk Ramada Inn, and BB King's in Universal City, and they invited us to be their guests on this Mother's Day weekend. Knowing some of the guys, and getting inquiries about them, I just had to check them out.
Always in the mood to listen and dance to good ,live music, Steven & I escorted our Ladies, packed up some anticipation, and went to catch the Night Flight 2 band in action.
Feeling a little hometown loyalty, the Night Flight 2 band's lead guitarist Danny Cameron, like SATISFACTION's Chris Reserva, also hails from my hometown of Bassett, California, which added a little appeal to me. I've known Danny since elementary school, and he's well known throughout the San Gabriel Valley as a musician and singer extraordinnaire for many years with many popular bands. Being from the same 'hood, and also being a brother U.S. Marine from the Viet Nam era, Danny and I go way back.
Tonight, after greeting us like familia, he accompanied the band masterfully as they opened up with some nice dinner hour smooth jazz, moving easily through 3 strong sets of Old School, R & B, oldies, cumbias, disco and funk that had the dance floor movin' and groovin' for the rest of the night. It's always so pleasing to see a band having as much fun as the crowd they play for, and Night Flight 2 makes it a party.
Drummer & band manager Peter Jaramillo (pictured) told me "We've just celebrated our first year anniversary together as a group, and I have to admit, playing good music with good friends for a good crowd is definitely a natural high. It's like a runner's rush...ya just don't wanna to stop playing as long as there's Gente wanting to dance. Every gig is a party, and we have a real good time". He credits such groups as Tower of Power, Chicago, and Earth, wind, and Fire as musical inspiration.
Like me, Peter's a lively grandfather who enjoys fighting the aging process, and we both agree, music is a fountain of youth that we both enjoy taking a deep drink from. Judging from the way he way hittin' the skins last Friday, this guy will always be a happy teenager on stage...I can definitely relate!
Future plans include an upcoming CD, and of course, lots of live performances.
...and you know LatinoLA will be there!
