This Friday, Chicano Express Radio presents a Rosie & The Originals tribute show, featuring the Queen of Chicana Oldies, Ms. Rosie Hamlin (pictured). Last Friday, the Night Flight II Band rocked the house and opened some eyes at the Lakewood Hop. With 2 full bars, new air conditioning, spacious seating, great service, and a big dance floor, most of L.A.'s top bands and the Gente are heading that way every Friday & Saturday nights for Old School action, which includes free admission and dinner before 7:oopm, and some of the hottest names in Chicano Music. The Night Flight II Band has really improved, are becoming one of the more sought after dance/party groups in The Land of 1000 Dances, and word of a new CD is getting around. Marvin Phillips, of the famed Doo Wop Duo Marvin and Johnny, came back home to the 'hood Saturday afternoon as he visited the famed Sounds of Music Record Store on Whittier Blvd in East L.A., signing autographs, taking pictures and hanging out with the Gente to celebrate the release of their new CD "Marvin & Johnny ~ Yesterday,Today,and Tomorrow" featuring the Living Proof Rhythm Band. Cory Silva & Midnight Productions packed the A MI HACIENDA Restaurant & Night Club last Sunday with the Summer Slow Jam Concert that had the Gente steppin' out and lookin' good for some serious Old School music and dancing. Featuring Cory Silva, Rocky Padilla, and Hank Castro as the "Bad Boyz of Eastside Oldies", TIERRA (with the much celebrated reunion of Rudy & Steve Salas), and the Legendary Sly, Slick, and Wicked, the Gente were treated to an old fashioned low rider R & B /Latin Soul/Oldies concert & dance that brought out that "good Old days" feeling in everyone. Singer Pepe Marquez and music producer Steven Chavez, along with KUCR FM's Christina Chavez, Ernie Pintor of Lil' Bit of Soul, and legendary horn man Bobby Loya were spotted in the crowd. Eastside Primetime's Art Esparza MC'd the show, and opening the show to "Wow" reviews was upcoming Chicana diva Melinda Del Toro. At 16, this young Lady is turning heads and getting people talking. Midnites Moon is making plans for their first appearance featuring Thee Midniter greats and founding members Benny Lopez and George Salazar, Jaguars great Tony "Beaver" Carroll, Impalas legend Al Anaya, Victor Cisneros of TIERRA fame, Jason Hemmens of the L.A.
