AIDS Awareness through Music

The internationally renowned Cumbia sensation, La Internacional Sonora Show continues to take their famous sounds every where that exciting Latin music is required.

They have just returned from playing the 3rd Annual Viva Laughlin event, which was their second trip to Nevada in the last few months and now they will play a free performance for an important cause close to their heart, the Latino Aids Awareness Concert at California Grand Plaza in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, October 15, 2006.

October 15 is National Latino AIDS Awareness Day (NLAAD). The date is used as an opportunity to create awareness of the devastating and disproportionate effects AIDS is having in the Latino community. A special day of awareness and prevention against HIV/AIDS in the Latino community, the Latino Commission on AIDS, the Hispanic Federation and more than 600 partners in more than 258 cities across the nation, the National Latino AIDS Awareness Day will be commemorated from coast to coast of the U.S.

Los Angeles will observe the 4th annual NLAAD (National Latino AIDS Awareness Day) event from 2PM - 6PM with a day of music and fun with El Quinto Sol and special guest La Internacional Sonora Show. La Internacional Sonora Show has been a strong supporter of AIDS and HIV philanthropic causes since the 1990s and have not let go of this cause. This event is part of the California Grand Performances.

Grand Performances (GP) is Southern California's largest presenter of free performing arts programs and a landmark nonprofit arts institution established with a primary focus on bringing together the diverse peoples of Los Angeles, in unique settings, for concerts celebrating the cultural contributions of our community's peoples.

For those who prefer their Cumbia music in a club, La Internacional Sonora Show will play later that evening at La Chavela Nightclub in Canoga Park. There are special VIP passes on their MySpace page www.myspace.com/sonorashow that will allow 2 admissions for $10 before 10 PM.

La Internacional Sonora Show is the widely respected professional team of singers, musicians, and composers known as its beginnings as La Sonora Dinamita and in 1992 adopted the name La Internacional Sonora Show. The group was founded by the unforgettable Kiko Vargas, Sr. and his sons (Billy and Kiko Vargas, Jr.). In the last decade, they have perfected the musical style that is the "Cumbia". They have appeared on the line up of very many high profile Latin music shows and have performed in many events including Carnaval Calle Ocho in Miami, Fiesta Broadway in Los Angeles, all of the major Cinco de Mayo festivals. The music of La Internacional Sonora Show has been featured in commercials for MCI, the California Lottery, Coors Lite, Miller Lite and La Curacao.

They recently sold out the famous Hollywood Palladium with advance ticket sales.
