News from the Brown Side of Town

?í?íOrale, Mi gente!!...hoping you've had your fill of tamales, ham, turkey, screaming kids, lots of smiles, laughs & love with familia, frequent trips to the store for batteries, film, trash bags, and cold ones...(yeah, I'm there , too!)..and that you put a couple of minutes aside to say a quick prayer for our guys & gals spending the Holidays in places like Iraq, Afghanistan, and Korea...that keep it all possible for us...

...Thanks, guys!

Whew! Christmas being done, we all turn our attention to New Year's and prepare to say goodbye to 2006...wacha:

Starting off December, Aaron Ballesteros & APB rocked the Tamale Festival in Riverside, Califas, to a loud & grateful crowd who braved the cold to catch this Grammy nominated Chicano group, who's first CD "Be on the lookout" suprised everybody. (www.apbmusic.org)

Peter Jaramillo and his JEG Promotions group got things off the ground at the Whittier Radisson Hotel Lounge, bringing in heavy hitters like SUAVE, SOTO, the BLUES STRAIGHT UP BAND, and SANGRIA to full houses, promising other big names like SMOOTH TOUCH, SATISFACTION, BALANCE, and possibly MIDNITE's MOON. (www.jegrp.com)

The Happy Holidays Dance de Aztlan at the Saddleback Lounge in Norwalk was a sold out, standing room only success, starring SATISFACTION, SOUL PURSUIT, PEPE MARQUEZ, MELINDA DEL TORO, EILEEN BENAVIDES, and HANK CASTRO, with yours truly at House DJ & MC, and dude!...WE ROCKED DA HOUSE!! The whole affair was recorded by RAMPART Records, and will be broadcast on the new East L.A. Revue World wide radio network (www.eastLARevue.com).

Pepe Marquez's "Dance Mamacita" CD was one of 2006's best sellers, and SATISFACTION was one of L.A.'s most popular draws this year, over shadowed only by L.A.'s "big boys", TIERRA and WAR...music NEVER dies in the Land of 1000 Dances.(www.satisfactionband.com ~ www.pepemarquez.com )

As predicted, Texas's "Godfather of Tejano & Chicano Soul", mi compadre CRAZY CHUY HERNANDEZ, was voted most popular Latino Internet DJ by Latino troops around the World overseas, for his outstanding bi~lingual Holiday tribute shows dedicated to the troops & their families, with me running a VERY close second, and being priviliged to guest DJ on his World wide Chicano Express radio network. (www.chicanoexpress.com) We promise you more top quality Chicano music in 2007!

Speaking of Chicano music, a joint~experimental venture (actually a gamble) by Mr. Steven Chavez, RAMPART Records, and LatinoLA has paid off handsomely as East L.A. REVUE RADIO hit the the ground running in December, and gains momentum everyday. Broadcasting Frankie Firme's "2nd Time Around Show", rare vintage RAMPART Records treasures (the ORIGINAL Cannibal & the Headhunters, Village Callers, Blendells, etc ), rare "Wolfman Jack" radio broadcasts, comedian Gilbert Esquivel clips, "Crazy Chuy" Hernandez clips, and offering a market page to purchase all this treasure (along with current populars Pepe Marquez, The Company, Satisfaction, Quinto Sol, etc), the East L.A. Revue Radio Network looks to take their place amongst the "big boys" sooner than expected, with a video page and the sponsoring of live music shows coming in 2007. Keep your eyes & ears open, mi gente...the East L.A. Revue Radio network is coming at you from the Land of 1000 Dances, BIG TIME!

After 7 years, Frankie Firme and the 2nd Time Around Show leaves KCLA FM Hollywood. It's been a great ride, and we've all had a good time, but like all good songs and good rides, this one must now come to an end. In response to high listener demand (and complaints), a once a week show just wasn't enough, and a larger, stronger server was needed to accomodate the over 2 million World wide listeners that have made the 2nd Time Around Show the most listened to Oldies but Goodies & Latin Soul music show on Internet radio. Frankie Firme & the 2nd Time Around Show will now be heard exclusively only on www.eastLArevue.com and www.chicanoexpress.com ~ where it's a BROWN thing, baby, 24 hour a day!

Our last 2 shows on KCLAFM.com will be 2 hour specials on December 21st and 28th, with special guest co-DJ Peter "sock-it-o-me" Jaramillo .

For New Year's, we ask you all to dress up and step out...but to be careful, use good judgement, respect all your carnales y carnalas, put famila first, and handle your responsibilities con ganas as you bring in 2007, in BROWN style!

New Year's Eve action is going to be happening all over Aztlan. Once again, friends of LatinoLA.com in the California Highway Patrol, L.A.P.D., and L.A. County Sheriff's Departments ask us to ask you to please drink responsibly, and to get a room rather than drive after a long night of partying...or THEY WILL reserve a room and breakfast for you...at YOUR expense!

One of the best New Year's bets I'm aware of happens at the Hyatt Hotel in Valencia, as the West Coast Chicana Queen of Salsa, and star of the Annual Oxnard Salsa Fesival, the one and only Ms LESLIE PAULA and her LATIN SOUL BAND, take the stage and team up with the San Fernando Valley's finest, The COMPANY BAND, featuring Ms Becky Cordova. For tickets & more info: www.companyband-tcb.com , or call (818) 389-9214, and ask for the special "TCB" room rate.

WAR's Sal Rodriguez also brings a little SFV to the party as he presents a New Year's bash at the Palacio Torres in San Fernando, featuring the Westside Crew. For tickets & info: salthedrummer@aol.com .

Sadly, 2006 also says goodbye to a pioneer of Soul music that has influenced singers and performers around the World for over 50 years, the Godfather of Soul, MR. JAMES BROWN (pictured). Rest in peace, brother...and thank you!

For more 411 on New Year's bashes y todo mas de nuestra cultura en Aztlan, check out the calendar page here on LatinoLA.com, where it's aways happening, or it ain't here!

Keep it safe, respect & protect our women & children, fight the scourges of drug abuse, child abuse/neglect, and domestic violence, educate our young, keep your head up , and your mind & body strong, and always remember...IT'S A BROWN THING, BABY!!
